Fished the big lake from noon to 9 tonight with pretty marginal results. Caught 2 17″ channel cats, 2 small walleyes and a handful of decent crappies. About half the catch came on jig/leech combos, dragged slowly across sand bottom in 18-25 fow. The other half on pitched jig/berkeley power leech combos to rocky shorelines. Stuck a couple of nicer fish that came unbuttoned on the way in.

I’ve been fishing Wissota for about 7 years now, and I’ve never caught as many cats as I have this year. Channels and flats both! Maybe I’ve just been missing out, but it seems like my usual summertime walleye spots are crawling with cats this year.

Where abouts are you catching the cats?

We’ve caught cats up the Chip, along the shore opposite the golf course, and in two areas on the big lake. One area is on the big sand bar below the mouth of the Yellow River and the other area is outside of the little harbor area that is just north of the Rod and Gun Club park.
