I dont get it. This lake is not big enough, its mainly a smallmouth fishery for bass, but a muskie and walleye fisshery first. 50 boats on a lake thats 6000 acres were maybe 1000 acres are fishable……what gives, the complaints are already pouring in, cant catch a fish over 13″. too small a lake, why, why, why. With all the awesome lakes within two hours of this lake did they pick Wissota…..

More interested in your Ronald Reagan quote. Here’s another of his, “Most people go through life wondering if they made a difference, the United States Marines don’t have that problem.”

If they can’t find a fish over 13″ then they really shouldn’t be called pros. They are just whining about finally having a challenge. It’s definitely a different type of water than most of them have fished before.

The entire lake area is 6300 acres with 1510 acres in the Chippewa and Yellow River areas alone. Multiple shorelines and offshore structure exist on the main lake. Sounds to me like the little lake is off limits due to the final six spots for the last two days.

I don’t like fishing Wissota myself due to all the pleasure boats, but it has the fish and area needed. I’d be more concerned about the boats watching on the water getting in the way.

Everyone just needs to take a chill and let the pros fish. Remember they’re all getting paid for this tournament without having any entry fee.

If I was in the tourney I’d head up the chip to fish it, I bet that is were the winning stringers come from, you like quotes from Mr Reagan how bout this one ” There are no such things as limits to growth, because there are no limits on the human capacity for intelligence, imagination and wonder”

How did it actually git picked? You look at the schedule and the rest are mainly down south. Did someone put in a good word for it or what?

Yeah I checked out http://www.bassfan.com and just about all the pros are rippin on the lake asking why they are there. They say there is very little fishable structure and the contest will be won off of luck.

Upper Chippewa and Moon bay is predicted to be the best.

From what I understand when ESPN was here for the lumberjack championships they liked the area so the reat is history…

The ones that aren’t ripping on the lake are probably the ones who have figured out how to catch the nice bass. Very little fishable structure…when compared to the flooded forests, huge weed beds, flooded roads, flooded ravines, etc. in the other lakes they fish. Though the main lake doesn’t have a lot of humps to fish.

That’s what I heard, lumberjack contest got them interested. They reviewed the area and maps for Wissota, checked with the local BassMaster clubs that fish Wissota, maybe checked it out themselves, and then decided to hold it there.

Follow the money. BASS and the FLW go where the locals will promote them. That’s why so many tournaments end up on less than perfect lakes. There are some great lakes farther north, but not with enough places to stay, or facilities to hold a national tournament, or cities willing to put up some cash.

Yeah I suppose, with there being two larger cities by Wissota. It will probobly add o the tourism dollars by holding it here as well.

Anyone know if this is broadcasted live on ESPN?

I couldn’t believe all the whining I heard on stage last night. Some of the guys couldn’t catch a fish in two days of fishing, I can understand their frustration, but Ike got two limits and culled fish on the first day. I want to approach them and say instead of whining about the size of the lake and how much fishing pressure the lake gets, take a look in the mirror and ask yourself what the other guys are doing that you can’t seem to figure out.

They refer to the lake as a pond as a subtle insult. No arguments here, the lake is too small. Get over it, everyone is fishing on the same water, deal with it.

Would they rather be on a bigger lake and catch a few fish and have better fisherman like Ike still kick their butt. I suppose at least they would get warm fuzzes knowing they didn’t get skunked.

It was a horrible display of sportsmanship.

I agree, this should be a challenge for them, show who the real fisherman is.

I do have to agree, I’m really disappinted in the sportsmanship. I did enjoy the latest article in Bassfan though. The one guy really talked up the people and the area.

Plus you see it is like everything else. They are mad because Ike is kicking butt again and they don’t have an excuse other than the obvious.

Nice to read him saying he can target LM, a few years ago this was unheard of on this lake, the gills too are really coming on, something to be said about stable water conditions instead of draining the lake every winter….

I did not realize they used to drain the lake. I would have to think that wouldn’t help.

What are their chances of any of them catching a limit on Little Wissota? I’m on Wissota about 10 to 15 times a year but I do most of my fishing up the Chippewa for Walleye and Smallmouths. I don’t recall ever fishing Little Wissota except through the ice.

Are there enough bass on Little Wissota for 12 fisherman today and 6 tomorrow?

Yes, by not doing a winter draw down the weed beds have been growing and growing, also the drawdown really limited the crappie holes so winter targeting of the slabs was easy, now if they would stop the drawdown on Altoona it would help that fishery also….

The speculation is that there will be a better catch per angler ratio. We will have to see.

Yeah Jason in late winter they would open the dam and let a bunch of water out and all the ice would bow down with the bottom terrain. It was nice because you could find all the holes and see sandbars because those were completely exposed.

One guy said he got a 4lb. eye from the chip and it sounded like everyone got a few muskies and that one guy said he got a 30 lb. carp. Overall it was a good show.
