The lousy weather of late has put a damper on the shallow water fishing on Lake Wissota, however the main lake fishing is making up for it. I spent Sunday afternoon prowling around my typical summer walleye spots, all the while getting pushed around by the north winds, nearly horizontal rain and nice, big, over the transom-type waves….happily, the fish are starting to appear. I sorted through several hand-fulls of short walleyes and a couple of decent pike before this dandy fish came to the net…24″, 5-6 lbs (?), released . She came from 26 feet of water near a steep shoreline break on a downwind shore. Shorter fish were shallower than this one, and the pike were on the top of the break. All fish on 1/4 – 1/8 oz green jigs tipped with fatheads. Time to enjoy the main lake before the summer water-warriors begin to appear. Tight lines everyone!
