Wishbone Resort-Cass Lake Review

I was up at Wishbone resort this past weekend for my families annual ice fishing trip. We have always gone to Red, but thought we would try something new this year. For what it’s worth, here are my thoughts. I have never been through a resort or guide service that was as interested in making our experience great and what I saw at Wishbone. It started on the drive up when I called to ask for any advice before we arrived. It carried over to the guides on the water and the staff in the lodge. We needed a few things during our stay (gas for our generator-our fault) (and a new battery for the sleeper-their issue) both were handled very promptly and with incredible thoughtfulness. On Saturday we requested having our house moved, and they were there with a crew of 4 guys within 10 minutes and had us back to fishing within 30. I was blown away.

Unfortunately the fishing was totally shut down with the cold front. I had my Recon down and could see fish, but they refused to bite. I must have tried 40 different baits. But the staff did have us on fish, we just could’t connect. The fish houses and shore cabins where some of our group stayed were the most comfortable we have encountered between Red and LOW. I really can’t say enough. If you are looking for a high quality place on a far less crowded lake, check out Wishbone Resorts on Cass Lake.

+1 on Wishbone. I haven’t stayed with them for a few years but, they run a top notch program. It’s nice that they have the one area of the lake all to themselves. Our group has been looking to get back there at some point, next year may be the time.

I agree Dan! I was up there the weekend before you and well it wasn’t lights out we did catch fish and so did the other houses.Ron is a great guy and more than accommodating for whatever we needed. Also was great after fishing to talk about the lake etc. at the resort watering hole! Lots of spots for the fish to roam out there though. Definitely would go back maybe late Feb/early March to try a different time!

I have been working for Ron , Tracey, Rons parents and sister for many years wiring cabins and doing anything needed and asked for. They are truly great people and a real pleasure to deal with. I do not care if they call on Saturday, Sunday or at 1 am I will alyays go and help where we can, and not charge them a penny more than I would on a regular work day. Always fun and pay their bills right away. We are doing a new cabin for them now you most likely saw it going up. They care about their guests and put out 150% to assure everyone has a great time. Super nice clean resort and things are done right not cobbeled together. We all need to support people like this all we can because the big corporate resort owners care about 1 thing only and that is money, real people like the ones at Wishbone care about people first, and if you care about people the money and repeat business will follow!!

Thanks for all the reports guys. As somebody who has thought about fishing open water on Cass these are the kinds of reports a person looks for. waytogo

Is it also safe to assume that they have good docks?

A little bird told me Pike Bay is the place to be in winter, but I have never caught anything worthwhile over there.

They put big bucks into new docks a few years back, like 55K in all aluminum roll in docks that are 6′ wide with 10 or 12 side docks to make spots to tie up in, and of course full power and lighting on the docks. They also have a secondary dock with another 5 or 6 spots and power.

Great review. I have a love-hate relationship with the Cass chain. I love the central location, all of the attached lakes, all of the space to spread out, all of the resorts. But it’s hard to fish. All of those depth changes and the clear water.
