For those of you maybe thinking about joining the dark side.

Wisconsin has a great deal for a non-resident fishing license going on right now.

If you’ve never been registered to fish in Wisconsin or you haven’t had a Wisconsin non-resident license in the last 10 years.

You can get a non-res wisc
fishing license for $25.75 instead of the normal $60.
There are some hunting options too if that’s your thing.

I don’t often say this but …way to go Bucky..

Yes, many great things Wisconsin has over Minnesota. Especially nice to New comers.

Minnesota is the opposite, they don’t take kindly to people moving to Minnesota… like making you pay for non resident licenses until you’ve been a resident for 6 weeks? Retake drivers exam. Etc.

I’ll no longer donate to mn dnr after having to buy non resident licenses as a Minnesota resident. They grabbed enough.

The Annual Family out of state is also a cheap way to go for a lic and it comes with one Salmon or trout stamp already paired for the primary holder.

They also have first time deer tags and I believe turkey tag discounts as well. I hunted up by the St. Croix River last year during rifle season and it was super cheap, plus they even had free doe tags to boot. Looking at getting after some Wisconsin turkeys this spring, if the wife allows jester

WI did this because the DNR knows that our fish stocks won’t be threatened by yoose meenneesohtan’s inability to catch fish. It’s a great plan. I only wish it was reciprocated.

That inability is because all you cheeseheads ate all the fish in your lakes already.

Typical govt. I purchase my non-resident license religiously and the scofflaws get the break.

If you thought it was expensive to buy a non-resident license in MN, try hunting in Iowa. First time non-resident deer hunters in Wisconsin can buy a license over the counter WITH a discount. But in Iowa, you need to apply for a lottery, which has a non-refundable fee, and if you are lucky enough to draw, you’re looking at over 700 bucks.

I think its safe to say that the deer hunting in Wisconsin right across the river from Iowa is just as good too. Wisconsin is encouraging participation with these non-resident license discounts, while Iowa is essentially saying “go away.”

I think it has a lot to do with the heard size in Iowa. We have a substantially lower heard number and far fewer acres of public ground. Although, we do have some nice deer running around. I can say that the public land, at least the stuff I hunted in Wisconsin, was far more packed with hunters and we didn’t see nearly as many deer as Iowa gun season. I do believe they have an out of state doe tag you can get, at least my buddy who lives in Minnesota comes down every year with one.

SK, in most of the southern farmland zones, you get up to 4 bonus doe tags with your license……for free.

Thanks for the head’s up. I grew up in Northeast Iowa, right across the river from Wisconsin, so I’ll have to try the more southern part of the state instead of further north. Only reason I was hunting up north was because my buddy who lives in the Twin Cities has a summer home in Amory, Wi, and we hunted up there.

With all the corn & beans in Iowa, those deer must be slobasourases. Maybe that’s why the cost is so high? Need a “overweight permit” to transport?

Sorry, but this discount is like a kick in the nuts to me. Great way for the state of WI to say thank you for decades of supporting the state with non-res license purchases, only to have noobies offered a deal.
