I’m new to Wisconsin and need a clarification on archery hunting during the 9 day gun season. Do I need to purchase a gun tag if I want to archery hunting during the 9 day gun season??

Double check the regs but Archery has its own season. Looks like Sept 12 – Jan 3. If your plan is to hunt State Parks and such, however, there can be other restrictions.

But that’s the thing, I’m having difficulty with interpreting the regs

I’m not sure, i have hunted with bow during the gun season but i have always had both licenses, i would give a warden a call.

You can bowhunt during the gun season using your bow license

That’s wisconsin hunting regs for you. As I understand it you don’t need one (gun tag in addition to bow), but can only use archery tackle.

Top line. I was told the law changed two years ago…

The way I read it you can also use a bow or crossbow as your choice of hunting tool….shotgun/slug, rifle or bow during only the firearms season if you hold a firearms license. If you hold the bow license you can hunt all thru the firearms season with it but you cannot be in possession of any firearm, including concealed carry arms.

I would agree with Tom on how it reads.

Update: I went into the Sawyer county DNR and they said that bow hunters are allowed to bow hunt during the firearms season and don’t need to purchase a gun tag. However, if a person does purchase a gun tag, they are allowed to kill two bucks-both can be with a bow.

Does one of those deer have to be shot during rifle seasons?

Remember if bow hunting during the gun season you need to wear orange clothing.

Yes, but remember it doesn’t go reversed that you can not fill your archery buck tag with a rifle

I shot a buck with my muzzle loader on opening day. Brought out the bow and shot a doe the next day. Now I’m busy cutting up deer! Yum Yum! Tenderloins for Supper tonight! Both were shot using my GhostBlind! I love this blind! Have yet to get busted when using it.
