The Wisconsin Dells

My good friend John Schultz invited me to come on another trip to the Dells today with him and his friend Jacob. I’ve fished the Dells a number of times and haven’t really had a decent day. We broke the jinx today after a slow am period, the bite turned on. We got these 5 keepers another 6 or 7 shorts and 1 slot fish. We also found the pike to be active with 6 of those. The hot color was firecracker chartuese on a 5/16th precision head jig by Bfishn tackle. the idea today was to do some pitching but frozen foam all over the place limited us to some verticle presentations and some trolling. The jig was the ticket today. John was an ace at boat control with 15mph winds swirling around us all day. I had big fish of the day which is normal (not counting pike).

    Nice fish Kev!

Seems like you always do the best when fishing out of the back of John’s boat. Must be pretty nice to have your own, personal fishing guide.

No doubt I am blessed with many friends who are superior anglers. I don’t mind fishing in the back when someone wants to run the boat especially in windy conditions. Fun and jokes aside I have become a better angler by paying attention to someone who knows what they are doing. I can handle my own boat just fine and don’t mind doing it when someone asks I will always run the boat when it is mine or if someone needs a break. I’ve been river fishing since I was 13. 29 years of experience and I’ve gotten better the last 5 with the help of this website and people I’ve met here.

Kevin’s a good guy to have in the back of the boat. He fishes hard and generally follows directions well. He appreciates all the work that goes on in the front of the boat that insures the guys in the back have their jigs where they belong and not blowing in the current 50 feet out to the side of the boat. If everyone that hopped in my boat fished like Kevin, it would make for a lot of good trips.

It was a first for me to see one person manage to pull 4 straight pike from a spot that was yielding sauger and walleye to everyone else.
