Mentotaeye and myself are both climbing the walls one week prior to fishing Red Wing for a whole week. So as we often do we blew off a day when the weather was nice and tried to get after a couple of educated dells walleyes. For those of you who are not familiar with the dells it is the first open water spot around here and it gets pounded to say the least. We found a couple of short saugers, one hammer handle and this pig that wanted a tiny minnow. Estimate 35 inches maybe 15lbs. I hope Jon has used up his luck so I can mop the floor with his sorry behind next week.

The pike in both Lake Wisconsin and in the river seem to eat really well. For the length of that fish, it was incredibly healthy. They certainly don’t lack for food. I caught that fish on a splitshot and minnow that I was casting to an area of shallow rocks. Certainly not what I would expect to get a pike of that size on. It took a few seconds to know for sure whether it was a fish or a log. Lots of fun on a medium light rod and light line.
