Two friends and myself headed to the wisconsin river below the petenwell dam today. Nice meeting you today z-man. We caught between 30 and 40 walleye today with only three being of legal size and none in the slot. Started out pitching paddle tails in the morning and in the afternoon switched over to just a split shot and hook tipped with a fathead. The bite turned on around three in the afternoon while working a back current from a stationary position. Casting and dragging the bait slowly back produced most of the fish…

    Targaman,

Did you put in at the public launch on the south side of 21? And what is the slot right now?

    Thanks,

    You can keep 5 fish. 4 between 15 & 20″, and 1 over 28″, or all 5 between 15 & 20″. All walleyes between 20 & 28″ must be released.

Nice job, we went there last year in January when all the lakes opened up and got around 40 to 50 eyes everytime when we went and a few keepers every time. The old splitshot was the best for us too, we put on the blades and cranked in real slow . The first day we started to run out of minnows so we cut them into thirds and just used small peices of the minnows and it worked great . Thanks for the report. If the weather holds this week we will be there. From Jeff.

Good to hear it turned out for you guys. Try using three ways with a floating rapala orange or gold black work the best. For a dropper i use a paddle tail or ring worm with a 1/4 or 3/16 oz jig. I got to say it is deadly. there is an inlet on the east side just north of the bridge. Try pitchin paddletails or ringworms there. Or the old trusty slip bobber set up. I do best in the dark up there. Seems water is so clear in the winter that the fish get really active after dark. then after about 11 p.m. they shut off. I will be up there this week.

Good to meet you too, Targaman. I ended up posting my report under the Wisconsin Fishing-General thread. Check out the photos with the spiked 2×4’s. Any of you guys ever see that here before?
