Yesterday we fished Petenwell flowage from 5-9 PM…more accurately from the second landing to the mouth of the Lake.

We caught fish in several of the normal suspect locations for walleye this time of year.(two flows meeting/cooler temps/large concentrations of forage.)

We caught walleye steady from 5:30 to 8 pm.. about 2/8ths in the slot(20-28 inches), 5/8ths from 15 to 19.99999 inches , and only about 1/8th below 15 inches. crawlers on bare hook with split shot or jigging spoons caught all the fish. At one stretch we caught 10+ walleye in about 20 minutes.

The dividing line between a good bite and abad bite was 83 degrees and below, and absolutely no algae bloom. Where it was much warmer or the bloom was already on the top of the water we only caught white bass and sheephead.

Thanks for the report on Petenwell. good tips on water color/flow convergence. Havent fished there since spring, and been thinking about heading that way for a couple days. How have the river levels been? And what depths are you catching fish in? Thanks.

WATERS ABOUT NORMAL FOR MID JULY… ITS PETENWELL… ADD MIXING FLOW TO SHALLOW SHELVES WITH DEEP WATER ADJACENT AND You Have a wining combo for walleye and musky. My guess is almost all the fish were in 5-7 feet of water.

Thanks for the comeback, Lawrence, but didn’t get a chance to go this weekend. Keep the posts coming, though, because it’s a nice way of staying in tune with that great fishery.
