Spent the day today on Lake Wisconsin chasing walleye. Started the day at 6 a.m. pitching plastics and landed a 19 inche eye in the first 10 minutes. Caught that eye on an all white BFT paddle tail. Unfortunately, that was our only eye pitching plastics. Next fish to the boat was a 18 inch smallie on a catalpa orange / chartreuse tail paddle. Nice fish, but not what we were looking for. 2 fish in the 20 minutes still had my expectations up. Spent the next few hours busting our humps looking for fish that just weren’t cooperating. Spent some time trolling and picked up one small eye and was running out of ideas. Decided to head to the river and drift some plastics. Turned out to be the right idea for eater sized fish. Drifted chartreuse / green core ringworms and chartreuse / green core paddle tails and hit a flurry of active fish for about 45 minutes. Ended up with 5 more fish in the 16 to 18 inch range, along with about 6 fish in the 13 to 15 inch range. The majority came on ringworms, with only a couple on the paddles. The key seemed to be moving slightly faster than the current, somewhere between verticle jigging and dragging. Guess you would have to call it verticle dragging. Turned out to be a pretty good day after all. Took two fish home for a meal and sent the rest swimming. Attached is a picture of the 16 and 18 my partner kept for dinner.
