We will be going to the lower dells this weekend on the Wisconsin River and for once I don’t have to be home for dinner. We are staying at Rivers Edge Resort Sunday night. And I figured while the boat is still in the water that after dinner we would go out and see if we couldn’t find more fish.

Having never night fished before for Eyes here are a few questions?

What is a productive time frame?
How is the location going to vary vs the day bite, should be focus on more shallow and pitch to the shores?

And is the bait of choice going to change as we move from day to night fishing.

I see many of you post of your trips out at night so any advise would be great on how to make it a successful outing.

If you feel like leaving the boat docked at night, shore fishing just above the launch, or on the other side of the creek (you’ll see it) can both be good at night. Stick baits as Randy mentioned, or even 3-4″ twister tails on jigs. We’ve done well below the dam working shallow current seams at night, but it is a “very dark” ride back, and if the water is high as it looks to be, back along that shore mentioned, or any shallower areas can be fun – even more so than during the day.

Good to take a look during the day. When I fish the river at night its always from shore, and I won’t be 20′ from shore when I make that first cast into 2-3′ and drag it back up onto shore, knowing where the lips are in that 2-3′ zone is key. Slow taper no good, need a nice lip for the eyes to corral their prey. Been checking out some new spots for opener where the diver ducks are pulling up 3-5″ chubs all day long in back eddies next to rip rap shoreline, can’t wait for opener!!
