Lake Wisconsin walleye and sauger fishing is off to a terrific start this year. Lots of fish being caught by both trollers and jiggers alike. Most fish are running 13 to 18″ with a few of the bigger slot size girls showing up also.
Jigs tipped with a 1/2 crawler has been one of the standard presentations for early June. Leech’s will work also.
Use your electric motor to slowly worked the 14′ to 20′ humps and breaklines with this set-up.
If you like to troll, theres lots of fish going on the crankbaits right now also. Shad raps, wally divers and others similar baits are taking there fair share of fish trolled along the 10-15′ breaklines and points. Last friday, we caught them consistently trolling at 2.2mph. The next day, we could not get a bite unless we slowed down to 1.5mph. A day later, and we found that for us, the best bite occurred at 2.5mph. It pays to try different speeds.
My wife Nancy, caught her first 20+ size sauger on Sunday.
Her 21 incher makes for number 12 over 20″ sauger brought into my boat since last October. A quick picture and back in the water she went. This is a great lake to fish if you like catching really big saugers as a bonus while chasing walleyes!
Surface wate temps started out in the low 60’s on Friday, June 4th and by Sunday, they had risen to 67 degrees already.
Good fishing everyone,
JWB
