Making a trip up to Sauk City Dam this upcoming weekend and planning on fishing out of a boat. Just wondering if anybody has a walleye fishing report as of late?

That river is pretty shallow except for the scour hole. The boats will be stacked in a circle around and tight. If the water is dirty use a heavy jig and minnow or try plastics if the water is clear. You could always stop in at Ace and ask the guys there or there used to be a bait shop further north on Water street. I haven’t fished it for almost 20 years but I don’t think much has changed.

If the hole is to crowded try small jigs and waxies for blue gills near the golf course in about 6′ of water.
    Good luck.

Haven’t been yet this year, but last fall the river was loaded with undersized fish. Keepers were hard to come by at the dam. Best bet is to fish shallow first and last light. If you’ve never been up to the dam before, BE CAREFUL. Its tricky getting up there. Wait for some one else to make the run and follow them. Every time I wade the river in the spring on the weekend I see at least one boat come screaming in and hang up on one of the many wing dams. Also, the VFW launch is pretty rough. Bring waders. Good luck
