about 18 feet from bow to battery in back Lowrance hook 5 with gps down scan no side scan thinking 14 awg wire work good? Also any one know can you get two wires molded together or just tape to single wires together and run it along side the boat. Thanks

You can get 2 wires molded together. I’ve done so multiple times on Amazon. Your installation instructions should indicate the different wire size required for different run lengths. I’m going to stick my neck out and say that 14 ga. will work for that small of low amp draw unit.

    The unit draws .75-1 amp.
!4 gauge is fine-you could use quality speaker wire or tape two together.
Obviously make sure its fused and switched.

When the Boat center rigged my last boat, they went with 10ga marine. This is two wires in sheath. I would only buy marine wire, and probably run the 10ga for best performance. It will probably start up with 14, run good with 12, but never have a lack of performance concern with 10ga. Some will say 14 or 12 GA is good enough, but when 10ga is advertised for less than $1.25 a foot, you would only save pennies by doing so. I had larger locators though, with a higher Amp draw, you could probably get away with whatever you want, but wire is cheap.

I would probably run 10 to be safe. It’s also convenient if you end up getting a newer/larger unit like I did a few years down the road – you can keep the wiring.
