Wiring 24V transom mount to 36V system

We are considering replacing our old 24V Terrova bow mount with a 36V Ulterra on our 2008 WX 1880 Skeeter. We also currently have a 24V Genesis transom mount. Is there a way to safely wire the 24V Genesis to the 3-12V battery 36V system needed for the 36V Ulterra? Thanks.

I know you can run a 12 volt and a 24 volt system at the same time by “jumping at the plug”, not sure if they make a 36 volt plug that jumps at the plug though.

I’ve never tried but it’d be simple to get 24 volts for your Genesis from only two of your batteries in series and still have the two in series with a third to provide 36v to your Ulterra.

Can’t provide constructive input on the wiring…but why an Ulterra? I’ve yet to talk to someone on a lake that likes it outside of the deploy and stow, when it works. I’ve been stranded on the lake twice now in my brothers, failing to auto-stow when the battery is low. You need to take the side cover off, remove a coupler and ratchet strap the motor up and back…no thanks. I’ll stick to a Terrova.

I love my Ulterra but yeah, you have to be aware of your voltage.

As far as why the Ulterra, a friend gave us a good deal on it as he was purchasing a new boat and it coincided with our old Terrova starting to has some serious issues. I get your point though as our friend experienced a similar situation with the Ulterra we are installing.

Had mine 3 years love it. Does it require more maintenance yes but it would never go without it. If your battery’s are dying you should have them checked before the season, if you are draining them during the day you need bigger batteries or a bigger trolling motor. If you don’t like preventive maintenance I would not purchase one of these either.

This is potentially not very good for your two 24v system batteries though if you run them down and THEN start using 36v because you will be discharging them deeper than you’d think by the 36v system voltage.

You’re probably right but it would work. The only other option would be to have two more batteries on the boat.

You can add me to the list that would not have a Ulterra. My buddy had a almost brand new one go bad on a trip in Canada. Not the place you want to try and get one fixed or replaced for that matter. Ended up having to overpay for a replacement in Canada and brought that Ulterra home in pieces. Just to much added things to go wrong.

I Luv my Ulterra never go with out one, have had absolutely zero problems with it. The motor should quit running before the batteries get to low to stow, a safety feature.
