I am the safety coordinator at our organization. Every early winter we send out winter safety reminders. Just some things to consider. You can search online for indepth details on each but just a couple we feel are extremely important.

CO Carbon Monoxide Lots of ice fisherpersons on this site. Have CO detectors in fish houses and have a check in/check out system with family or friends so they know your status
Also, have furnaces inspected. Google Moorhead Mn carbon monoxide poisoning-family of 7 all lost lives due to a faulty furnace almost unimaginable…..

Snow blocked/frozen sewer vent pipes and furnace exhausts on house.

CO detectors in homes, especially near sleeping quarters

Poor ice conditions, especially in early season and folks in a hurry to get out there.

As sure as I’m typing this, many will die this winter season and all caused by topics above are totally preventable.

Have a great Thanksgiving/Christmas season everyone.

    Good reminder.

Remember to put a carbon monoxide detector in your garage as well. Two of my kids and myself were hospitalized due to carbon monoxide poisoning caused by an ice block in the garage heater vent. My two year old son quit breathing after roughly 5 minutes of exposure and my 4 year old daughter went unconscious after roughly 7-8 minutes. I had no idea anything was wrong until my son went unconscious and I assumed he was having some type of seizure. After calling 911 and doing CPR on my son, I went back to find my daughter passed out in her car seat. We went through treatment and all of us recovered, but nobody should have to go through that.
