Anyone heading south this winter to chase red fish? Was going to do this last winter but ended up hog hunting in Texas. Thinking this might be back on the schedule for this winter. For you guys that have done this how did travel plans go? Fly down, drive down? If driving down did you pretty much take a day to drive each way? Any recommendations for guides? Looks like Venice La is the place to go.

I’m interested in hearing recommendations too. Venice Louisiana and the Florida space coast are known for big fish. Catching really big Reds is on my bucket list.
This guy is on my radar: http://www.floridasightfishing.com/index.htm
I chase Redfish every winter for a week on the Gulf coast of Florida. The top end size isn’t as big but being able to catch big Snook right along side of the Redfish makes up for it. Redfish are my favorite fish to catch. Their power is incredible.

December 11, 2015 at 12:43 pm #1583903Herre’s a couple I caught out of Venice in June. Awesome place to be. We fly down to New Orleans and rent a car. Stop at Salvo’s for lunch or dinner on your way down. Authentic seafood. We stay right at the Venice Marina. They have cabins on stilts for $150 a night. They sleep 4. Then you can walk right to the dock. We fished with Boola. He runs a bunch of guides and they always seem to be on fish. There is a bar restaraunt there so you can eat right there as well if you don’t feel like cooking. The bar will cook your fish for you for $6 a lb. The quide I had said the 46″ was the biggest he’d ever seen.

SurfratsPosts: 15December 11, 2015 at 1:02 pm #1583912Ive lived on both coasts and I wouldnt say that there is any difference in size between them.
Sebastian inlet routinely has 40+ snook and reds, as well as tarpon and all of the other desirable species. Inshore and Offshore fishing is readily available.
Id imagine you could find some decent deals on Southwest tickets to Orlando and take it to either coast.

Lot of spots on that 1st one. 2 days fishing or 3? Going that far Im thinking three. If nothing else at least one day for sitting around doing nothing. Thats what vacations are for.
