Winni, Leach, or Cass?

My family has had a place in the Marcell area forever but I have never really ventured out to explore any of the famous big lakes in the region. I have small lakes where I can catch all the panfish and bass I would ever want as well as numbers of pike. This year we will be going up in mid-July and I want to spend some time expanding my horizons and searching for walleyes and maybe hook into a big pike.

I don’t have a ton of experience breaking down bigger water and had considered hiring a guide, but I think I am just going to see what I can make happen. I think I have it narrowed down to Winni, Leach, or Cass. Which lake would be easiest to start on? Winni is the closest to my place. Also, I run an 1875 Pro Guide so I would prefer not to be making crazy long runs to get on fish.

Jimmy, take a look at Ball Club and Little Winnie. Squaw Lake is
another choice quite close to you.

    Good Luck

I would watch the mayfly hatch and determine the lakes. If it’s post hatch I would hit Winnie. I haven’t been up there a ton but late summer the walleyes move into the weed flats and you can catch them pulling spinners or cranks. It’s fun fishing.

If Winnie is closest, that’s make my decision right away!!! Keeping in mind any type of hatch, will only make you change waters until that hatch is complete… if you feel the need to do that… I consider it a greqat challenge to undertake and have had some of my best fishing during the hex hatch!!!
