is it just me or is everyday extremely windy nowadays. Seems like it’s windy more often.

I wonder if scientists calculate and or keep historical records of that. Is that even possible I wonder. I feel like perhaps I just asked the dumbest question of all time

Last fall I move to a place near the top of a hill/bluff and so far I’ve been thinking it’s just the result of that for me. Sorry crappie, but I’m happy to hear that others are sharing this and maybe it is just the weather!

But yeah, I’ve often said that regardless of whether it’s summer or winter, wind is my least favorite weather condition. Obviously it makes winter worse, and in the summer it just blows everything around.

Man, I can’t stand most of the banter and people repeating the same tired crap on here most days, and here I am bitching about wind!

Related…I guess I wonder why it seems – maybe just to me – that wind forecasts seem more inaccurate than other types of forecast (rain, temp etc.). For example, I might check the wind forecast the night before to fish Lake X and it says “winds calm, 5 mph”. So I choose my lake accordingly. Then, I’m out on Lake X and…it’s 10-15 mph. Which while still fishable, is annoying and I might have chosen a different lake etc. based on a more accurate wind forecast.

    I dunno.

    Maybe it’s just me.

Not just you. I’ve been thinking the same thing. Yesterday was bad, the wind was supposed to be 16 mph and it was up over 25 mph!

Don’t know where you are, but we made the decision on Thursday that we would be fishing pepin on Saturday and NOT Sunday due to predicted 25 mph winds. )

I use NOAA for wind and temp and only those two things. Precip I use weatherstreet 3 day radar forecast. Combined…as accurate as you’ll find.

If there’s a few WILL NOTS:
    Not from any tv
    Not from any app
    Never from anyone regurgitating

Dad was a farmer and knowing whether it was going to rain or not had huge financial implications. I do listed to dad’s weather, but I know his source )

Well, I grew up on a farm and keep thinking….you know, we all have computers (smart phones) in our pockets but the wind forecast these days doesn’t seem any better than it was back in the day.

Good suggestion on NOAA, though. I check them all and am routinely disappointed at wind forecast accuracy.

That said, like you I made the same call: I fished Saturday instead of Sunday cuz of wind forecast. And….hey, they were right about Sunday being windy!

A great ‘walleye chop’ for the guys who ventured out I bet.

I agree, seems a lot windier that years past, I’ve noticed it for the last several years.

Not sure what lake you were fishing but winds (forecasted or not) will be greater on a lake. Mille Lacs is a prime example, like a micro climate. If wind is predicted to be 10-15 over land, it likely will be 10-15 over land. Over a large expanse the wind speed will be more. If the forecast is 5-10 for the region, always add at least another 10-15 more for Mille Lacs.

I’m no meteorologist but I know that certain times of the year bring more windy days. The movement of the jet stream is a big factor and like now, late spring/early summer you have the parade of warm fronts followed closely by cold fronts and high low air pressure = a lot of wind.

Perhaps we could have Greta Thunberg chime in on the cause being directly related to the “climate change catastrophe” jester

Growing up on the farm I would tell Dad it was to windy to pick rock, never did work for me. The rare chance I get to fish now I do, rain, wind or whatever. Still better than not fishing.

Well…At least we don’t see waves stack up on land anyway blush

Looking at the forecast for Wednesday at Mille Lacs they just might. Could push Spider Island a 1/4 mile SE. tongue

    NOAA Forecast for Wed:

….. a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Yesterday it was Hawaii 5-0 out there!! Must have been a sustained 30 good part of the day.

Funny just last Thursday I was saying how much low wind days we had recently. Up until the last four days we had a good long stretch of calm. On the plus side the friday wind helped nab a few walleyes peace

Just a theory of mine, but as we get older do we probably hate wind more and more? Making it seem like it’s windy more often because we tolerate it a little less?

Too windy to pick rock? Boy…I got pretty creative, but that’s a new one. Heh, heh.

Growing up in western mn and now living in the dakotas the rare days it’s not blowing seem like a surprise. So I can’t say that’s anymore windy now than in the past.

^^^^ That’s a nice way of saying they are getting crotchety in their older age. rotflol I Tried that approach with a foreman once. It didn’t end well. lol
