For example, I might check the wind forecast the night before to fish Lake X and it says “winds calm, 5 mph”. So I choose my lake accordingly. Then, I’m out on Lake X and…it’s 10-15 mph. Which while still fishable, is annoying and I might have chosen a different lake etc. based on a more accurate wind forecast.
Not sure what lake you were fishing but winds (forecasted or not) will be greater on a lake. Mille Lacs is a prime example, like a micro climate. If wind is predicted to be 10-15 over land, it likely will be 10-15 over land. Over a large expanse the wind speed will be more. If the forecast is 5-10 for the region, always add at least another 10-15 more for Mille Lacs.
I’m no meteorologist but I know that certain times of the year bring more windy days. The movement of the jet stream is a big factor and like now, late spring/early summer you have the parade of warm fronts followed closely by cold fronts and high low air pressure = a lot of wind.
Perhaps we could have Greta Thunberg chime in on the cause being directly related to the “climate change catastrophe”
