I need to get my windshield replaced in the truck. Any suggestions on which company to use? I do have glass coverage on my insurance.

I’d first ask your insurance agent who they are able to work with, and possibly who they recommend.
November 5, 2018 at 3:18 pm #1807854I’m pretty sure in MN they can offer you their suggestion, but they cannot legally force you to use one.
That being said, in the past, I’ve always just used whoever the insurance company recommend because it’s easy.
November 5, 2018 at 3:25 pm #1807857You can use whoever you want in MN. On your side of the cities I’d recommend Only 1 Auto glass ph 651-789-1111 or Twin Cities Auto Glass 763-482-3546.

Yes, my insurance company had it all set up, I reported the problem to them and they transferred my call to Safelite on the spot. Safelite had all my info, address, etc in their system. The Safelite guy was in my driveway an hour later doing the replacement. I never had to make another call or touch any paperwork, so it was pretty slick.

November 5, 2018 at 3:39 pm #1807868My pickup just had a windshield replacement last month. My insurance company used Glass Source out of Golden Valley. They did an awesome job, all while my truck was in my driveway and I was at work. No extra paperwork or phone calls required. Couldn’t have been easier.
Todd HansonPosts: 22November 6, 2018 at 12:19 am #1807942Anybody but Safelite!! Sorry you used them!! They are bad for all the local glass shops anywhere!! I’ve been in the industry for 30 years! Wish I could have saved you! Auto Glass Today 651-633-8300 is one of the best in the Twin Cities!
November 6, 2018 at 8:49 am #1807994Good luck on the Safelite. I wish someone would have warned me sooner. I’ve replaced one windshield in my driving experience over the previous 33 years. This summer two broke.
The first was from a rock off a belly dump that was in the left lane while I was in the right lane. Spider webbed across over night. Full replacement.
Safelite replaced it. First off, the rear view mirror was lose. They had to come back to tighten a couple of pop rivets in the mirror. The first time it rained, two weeks later, it was leaking bad.
Before I could get the leak fixed, another rock chip. This time from a dump truck in the left lane while I was in the right lane. A bullseye that probably could have been repaired.
They wanted two appointments. One in the shop to test and fix the leak. Then a second appointment for the chip repair. WTH? Don’t know why they couldn’t do both on the same shop visit. I opted for another windshield replacement in the shop. That fixed both the leak and the chip.
They wanted four visits to do two repairs. 1.) The initial replacement. 2.) The mirror fix. 3.) The leak repair. 4.) The second chip repair. I combined the last two by suggesting they replace the whole windshield.
Hopefully it will be another 33 years before I need another windshield. By then, I probably will be hiring a ride service from a driverless vehicle.
November 6, 2018 at 9:07 am #1808003City Auto Glass in South St. Paul does great work and easy service. They came out to my work and replaced the windshield in my old Subaru a few years back.
November 6, 2018 at 11:27 am #1808045Ask them if they are install OEM? Typically they don’t unless you demand it.
November 6, 2018 at 11:40 am #1808049Safelite is the worst! I recommend staying far far away from them. They installed a windshield for me and after that I noticed a noise while driving down the road. So they came out and added a SILICONE to the edge of the windshield. It looked horrible so I called City Auto Glass. They came out the next day and put in a different windshield. It was done fast and perfect! Thanks City Auto Glass!
Safelite has to be the worst replacement glass company.
Musky EdPosts: 673November 6, 2018 at 1:05 pm #1808070Good luck getting an OEM glass without paying extra for it. Most insurers will not cover it, and is stated in the fine print of their policies that nobody reads until they can’t get the OEM glass that they are asking for. If I remember right, it was about $200 extra for OEM for me. I believed Safelight when they said their glass was great, big mistake. They put a window in my truck, and I didn’t bother to check it before they left. When I went to check on their job later that day, I couldn’t believe it, it looked as though you were looking through prison bars. When I called their manager, 50 miles away, he said he would come out the next morning to my house to personally to fix it. After seeing it, he was really upset that his worker even bothered to install it. Month later, chip in the window, they’re cheap windows. There is a reason your insurance wants you to go to Safelight, and it’s not for your benefit.
November 7, 2018 at 8:19 am #1808223I always ask for OEM glass and have no problems getting it, that’s what was in there that’s what I want back in there. American family insurance
November 7, 2018 at 8:22 am #1808224FWIW, Safelite did put two OEM windshields in my truck. From what I gather, it was dependent on the age of the vehicle. At 3 years old they were able to use OEM.
November 7, 2018 at 8:57 am #1808238Whatever happened to Harmon Auto Glass ?
They got acquired by TechnaGlass in MN.
Todd HansonPosts: 22November 7, 2018 at 6:50 pm #1808394Then JN Phillips acquired them! But will still use the Harmon name
DeletedPosts: 959November 8, 2018 at 6:06 am #1808461Safelite blows! They screwed up a chip repair and left it. I ended up getting them back out to put the new windshield in. I could rant but I need coffee.
November 8, 2018 at 9:54 am #1808512City Auto Glass just installed one on my truck yesterday! Great communication, fast and looks perfect.
I have a question, how come so many insurance companies recommend Safelite when they are obviously horrible? Is it just because they’re cheaper than other glass companies? You’d think the insurance company would want you to have a good experience and in turn appreciate their recommendation? A Safelite recommendation means they could care less about their customers…
