Anyone else on here trap or scoop willow cats? Been a couple years since Ive set my traps. Thinking if I get up to Aitkin next weekend might have to give it a try again. Its fun trapping them but my biggest issue is it really cuts into my fishing time. I can get cats most of the summer but right now seems to be the most productive time to trap them.

I’ve only got 1 in a trap and have set them quite a few weekends straight. I set them in show mucky/sandy weedy areas with overhanging trees. Do you have any better tips for me of where to set them? Thanks

You guys use regular minnow traps for willow cats or something different?

I use the black minnow traps. Have tried silver ones and the cats dont seem to like them as well. I also stuff weeds inside the traps. Seems to give the cats something to hang out in once inside. If not happy once they are in the traps they wonder around til they find a way back out. As far as location they seem to be everywhere. Have seem them under leaves in 3″s of water and caught plenty in 8′. Near logs can be good but bullheads also like logs. They can get in the traps and eat the willow cats.
