Will warm weather effect the ice we have?

We just got enough ice to drive on in southern mn and now the temps are above freezing and I was wondering if the ice will go bad very quickly, with the cloudy weather I’m thinking the ice should be stable for awhile depending on how warm it gets.

They said we could hit 50 the end of next week so ya the ice will start going bad.

I definitely would not be driving a vehicle out there in the southern half of the state. Some people have posted that guys are driving out there with only 9 inches of ice. Be smarter than that.

Coming home from Mankato yesterday I saw a car out on the lake on Cannon Lake by Faribault – Yikes!

We have been driving out on 13” of ice as of yesterday, I’m good with driving today but if it gets warmer and some sun the ice will change quicker than in a normal year.

We surely are going down a road for ice and warm weather that we have not seen before for this time of year.

I do not see much sun in the forecast. But if it hits 40 or 50 degrees out and the Sun comes out it will warm up anything sitting on the ice.

It does not take much wisdom to remove permanent shelters off the southern half of the state if you do not currently have over 12″ of ice. “You’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do you, punk?”.

I saw a couple on Roberds on Saturday. Myself, I don’t foresee driving on the ice at all this year.

Cedar lake had 3 trucks out on the South end last Saturday.

I pulled my house today. Of course I’ll be in FL and Texas fishing the salt for the vast majority of Feb. I can’t imagine what I’d come home to in March.

Walk & you will be fine. Have you noticed that most of the issues are with people using a machine?
