“no one is forcing you guys to live here. All things considered, Minnesota is a great state to live in if you enjoy the outdoors.”

True, I do enjoy many outdoor activities but only 5 months a year here…

    Think about this –

Only 56 days until the days start getting shorter again!!

Ah yes, Minnesota – the land of extremes, but at least our taxes are high ~

… and our sports teams are great

Id rather deal with the cold than the oppressive heat and humidity along with hurricanes, etc. You can always put on more clothes, but you can only take off so many. Having said that, this winter can F off! As has been said, we are likely going to jump straight to summer which is not real desirable.

The morel season is going to be short and intense. Here on the banks of Pool 4 we have a lot of moisture (considerably more in the woods than last year), but the soil temps have a ways to go. There’s few things that compare to a late May grilled steak with some fresh morels and a good warm weather brew on the deck.

Ideally, we could go for a 10-15 day stretch of 70 degrees with 50 degree nights…and maybe a few passing showers mixed in. I’ve got a better chance of winning the lottery without buying a ticket than that happening though.

This is exactly how I feel too. Don’t really care for the heat/humidity of summer and don’t really care for the bitter cold/snow of mid winter. I really do enjoy spring and fall, but it seems lately those seasons have become shorter.

I can do without a hurricane, wildfire, or earthquake. If a blizzard is the worst extreme weather event I have to endure here, I’ll at least survive that and my house will still be here after its over.

I look at at another way. When its hot you can always find shade to cool off. When its cold getting into the sun doesn’t warm you up.

I agree… don’t like real hot or cold, but if given the choice would opt for the hotter weather.

Reason being is if its hot like 90’s – at least you can get out at daybreak when its in the 70’s for a bike ride, or walk the dog near sunset. In between its too hot to be outside but at least you’re looking out the window at sun, green, etc.

The converse is the dead of winter… the long stretches of below zero or single digits, teens, 20’s, whatever. Doesn’t make any difference what time of day you go outside its just cold and colder, no break. Its gray/dark for months here and that’s not good for people’s moods, joints and the lack of Vitamin D is unhealthy.

Oh well, for now I’ll just focus on the fact that decent weather and fishing is just around the corner…

    C’mon Spring get here !

Just wait when we stay on Daylight Savings Time and be ready for it to be dark until like 9 AM in the winter.

This extended cooler than normal temps does suck but I thankful to live in the Midwest. We dont have the extreme high heats, hurricanes, and earthquakes. I love my seasons too much to move any where else.

The whole no Daylight Savings time thing is just dumb in my opinion. People sure do love to complain!

Yeah, its great to have the sun and not super windy. I’ll take this. At least the sun makes it appear nicer than it is.

Lots of examples of why the river is not busy most days. To each their own.

We made some ice the last 2 nights up here, 26 yesterday and 22 this morning. The pond where I-35 and Hwy 33 meet at Cloquet refroze over solid last night.
The good news is the Harbor and river are wide open in Duluth, so fishing Superior out of Duluth is now a go.

Having your heat on for 7+ months of the year is not great..

With years like this, I think many of us feel like this wasn’t part of the deal. We agreed to live here and endure a big chunk of the year for the really nice spring, summer, and fall that we boast about to others.

Mother Earth isn’t keeping up her end of the bargain this year.

Today Walleye Dan posted on his facebook page a video him going out and drilling a hole in the ice to measure. Still 18 inches! Yeesh. At least in the cities we have open water.

Nest thermostat can be set for both at the same time and on Saturday my heat ran at about 5:30AM and then the AC came on at about 6PM until I turned it off. It’s not a very useful feature with our weird weather when both will run for weeks at a time until the weather decides what season it is.

European Model has some scorching temperatures and dew points arriving next Tuesday. Better check your AC.

I really need to go fish some suckers one of these years. I use to have a blast doing that. Your fishing spot looks a lot like one of my old hot spots.

I don’t want to sound old. But I remember when we use to fish a couple months in the spring with a sweatshirt on. The bugs weren’t bad, maybe needed your rain gear here and there. Now it seems like Sno-Suit to swimsuit.
