I was looking forward to spending part of the holiday weekend out on open water for the 1st time this Year. But the though of fishing in Feels like Temps of 9-12 Deg. temps just did not sound fun. This morning on my drive to work it was 29 Deg’s, Snowing, and wind blowing at 25 MPH. Does mother nature not realize that it is past mid April. Mother Nature sure is a cruel _itch !!!

This weather is exhausting. It looks, feels and sounds like middle of January not April right now. Seems like its trending upward the end of this week. Let’s hope so!

Head south. Everything within about 50 miles of the Twin Cities and south is ice free and snow free.

Once you get to about St Cloud, it still looks more like winter.

We were almost snow-free this week. Woke up to a white blanket today and still snowing. Was going to run to SD today to fish. Snowing and blowing there, too. I’m trying to remind myself that last Fall was great fishing and weather during deer season even. Hopefully, that happens again. This getting old.

We got ~20in of snow with 3 days of sustained 40+ mph winds last week in Bismarck. Minot got about twice as much as us.
I was looking forward to taking the boat out as well, but that won’t happen any time soon.

10 day forecast for SoDak is 20-30 mph winds. And 25 mph winds there feel more like 35..!

It looks like this next weekend will be warm but short lived. I am seeing lows below freezing next week and even low 20s overnights further up north. Plus, rain and lots of wind. The wind is almost the worst part.

When it comes to fishing, Wind is the worst. If its cold I can layer up. if its raining I can wear raingear. But if Windy there is little you can do. There are days depending on wind directions we can find places to get out of it some. But on the really windy days ( 20 MPH + ) its tough and just not as much fun.

The positive is that the western half of North Dakota was VERY dry. All that snow is going to melt slowly into the ground and really help with their drought.

I can recall in 2018 it was like this. We received a mid April blizzard and then by Memorial Day it was already 95 freaking degrees. Basically from winter directly to summer. Spring was about 3 weeks long. I would prefer not to go there again this time around. I’d be fine if I didn’t have to use my air conditioning until the 4th of July.

Yep, this is shaping up to be another spring that wasn’t. Planned to spend this coming weekend in Webster, SD and that is looking very unlikely. Besides Saturday, temps look to be well below average through next week as well. I saw freeze warnings down in Missouri! moon

Down here in Iowa it’s been much of the same. Wind, wind, and more wind. Then yesterday it snowed all day lol. Got on the lake 7:30 Saturday morning. That was chilly! Good thing the fish cooperated otherwise it would have been a long day.

The wind is worse in SD. There is one silo to hide behind.

It’s my kids birthday today. And in 2011 when he was born it was a blizzard. I basically plan on that every year. If it’s not a blizzard then it’s a bonus

I really don’t think the lakes north of Hwy 2, or for sure the Iron Range will have open water by opener. In the 10 day forecast, there are only 2 days with overnight lows above freezing, and next Tuesday the low is saying 18…. Not looking good!

It will eventually trend abruptly and we’ll all be saying we went from winter to summer. jester

Sitting in the kitchen of my cabin between Spooner and Webb Lake, WI right now. Our lake is still frozen from shore to shore, and we’ve got 3″ of snow since last night. And it’s still snowing. It’s absurd.

I’m also of the opinion that the northern part of MN will not likely be ice free by opener judging by the forecast.

About the only positive I can think of is I hope this means we will have a “cool” summer. I’d be fine with long stretchs of 70s and low 80s. I’d be fine if we never hit 90.

Typical MN. 30’s today with 35 mph wind, then it’s supposed to be 70 on Saturday. Betting the wind doubles by then cuz why not. I was really looking forward to a couple 3-4 days by Easter but this crap weather is really making it hard to stay motivated…..may as well keep working doah

I think some of us are forgetting that we had the warmest summer and fall on record last year. That really was not that long ago.

Followed by a legit 6 months of winter. Pretty easy to forget last summer, other than our brown lawn.

It’s my fault this week. I put my new Ultrex on the boat. Anything I do anything with the boat before the season it starts blizzarding. Every. Year.
