Wild rice season

Mn wild rice season opened on the 15th. Anyone been out yet? We are looking to give it a try next weekend around bemidji.

I really do miss going ricing. We used to rice the wild lands between 35 and the WI border north of Pine City.

Wish I had the time these days. Although I’m not sure I’m what I once was as a pole pusher either. I rode that canoe like a surfboard. I riced for 9 seasons and never dumped a canoe, even one with 300 pounds of green in it.

Good luck. Nothing like the sound of it hitting the bottom of the canoe when it’s really ripe.

never dumped a canoe? heck i dont even dare stand to push pole. still ended up in the water knocking rice.

supposed to be a bumper crop of rice this year. around big sandy last weekend it was everywhere.

Picked up a nice set of rice knockers this weekend thanks to my brother in law. The up north part of our crew will be out mid week seeing how ripe rice is. Looking forward to getting out a couple days this coming weekend.

Brother in law was telling me you can pop wild rice like popcorn. Anyone ever try that?

Little wet ricing this last weekend but not to bad of harvest. 4 bags Saturday after getting a late start and changing lakes once. Over 7 bags for Sunday.
