Does anyone know the best way to hold over fresh harvested wild rice ? I’ve got twenty gallons in pails in water and noticed some mold on some of the rice on the edge of one of the buckets. I was hoping to keep it till next Friday and start parching it. I can’t find anything on the Internet about raw storage. I’m thinking about spreading it out on a tarp in my garage tonight and parching it tomorrow. I just don’t want ito to go to waste. Thanks if you can help.

We just spread it out, clean the stalks and other stuff out of it then re bag it till it goes to the processor. Some of the rice sits in bags for over a week.

Cant say Ive ever heard of soaking it in water.

Ok the only video I seen of a guy processing it, he said he keeps it in a sack and rinses it once a day with cold water and it keeps for a week. I also read a old story of how the natives would keep it in water for up to a week when there was to much to prosess that day. I’m going to go dry it now.

In my brief experiences ricing, I would think the dry route would be the best route to take. It seems to me like I had a wet experience and it too became moldy.
