Wifi Trail Camera – Do they exist?

I have a trail-cam in my backyard to catch critters and DNR routinely walking through my woods…I’m looking for a new one that could connect to my home wifi to avoid going out in the woods to retrieve/download the images off the SD card all the time. Does anyone make wifi Trail Cameras? I get that cellular is more ideal for the purpose of putting a cam way out in the woods and sending images back, but maybe somebody wants to appeal to the homeowner who has one setup in their backyard like me?

Hoping somebody else had this need and found a good solution…

(I found a couple online from Browning, but reviews aren’t the best and it looks like they abandoned supporting the app it used)

Wifi has a range of 160 feet from the router. Is your camera closer than that?

    It’s not really practical.

I have deer, pheasants, and coyotes 40-60 feet from my back door…regularly. Would be nice to run wifi vs swapping cards every couple of weeks.

Time to read up on that Spypoint camera.

If you have WIFI, you likely are close enough to just run power to it and buy a real security camera. Foscam is a brand I have a have and you can pick up the outdoor version for about 50 on Amazon. It has a free app that you can get motion alerts on. I don’t think you can add an SD on at least the outdoor version I have as it’s meant not to be easily accessible. There is some free could storage but you would need to be able to manually store it locally. The cool thing with this route is you can see it anywhere and the security cameras are light years ahead of the trail at a fraction of the price.

Also, why is the DNR routinely in your back yard? Isn’t it not private land.

You can get SD cards that are WIFI enabled. Like this one.

I have considered this option several times, but never pulled the trigger. I thought it would be nice for cams that are on trails so I don’t have to walk right up to the cam and risk leaving scent in the area.

It might be worth buying and trying just to see if it works for you and on the cam you already own before shelling out more money.

This has potential, my worry is that it’s really meant for easily getting pictures off your camera at your desk without cords, so the range is probably not much, especially with no meaningful antenna in the SD card… I might try it though, if it doesn’t work I could potentially use it in a motion security camera just outside the house. Thanks for the info!

Yes, I don’t know what the range of those WIFI sim cards is, but I’d think it would be pretty short.

I upload trail cam pics to my mobile phone, so I thought just the ability to get within 50 feet and then uploading would be fine, just having the ability not to have to go over and have hands on the cam and leaving scent all around it.

Amazon has easy returns so I’d think that it’d be worth a try for your use rather than $XXX on a new cam.

Cudde back is coming out with trail cameras that network together with a “home” unit. All the cameras will send their photos to this home unit. The home unit you can get in a cellular version or one that connects to your PC. The home unit would then upload the photos to your PC then be sent to you(not sure by what means, assuming email). I have been waiting for this to come out as I would like to use one to capture license plates of cars entering our driveway at the cabin.

I don’t think the wifi memory card would work. The trail cameras shut down after taking a photo, and wake up when motion is detected. They aren’t powered up long enough to send the photos someplace. Moultree used to have a few models that would work with these wifi memory cards. Not sure if they still do or not.

I have been looking for something like this as well for a while. Haven’t found anything yet. The cudde back is looking to be promising though.

I’m s called the Cuddelink system. There are a few cameras out there that use your cell service and sends you pics via text. Cameras are a bit spendy and you have to pay a subscription monthly fee. I’ve been looking at them for a couple years now…just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I love the idea of not having to check the camera at all.
