Why I can't stand Paul Allen

Vikes winning? No adversity brewing? Nobody injured? The guy sounds like he’s completely consumed by passion for his job. His enthusiasm is almost scary.

Vikes losing? Big momentum swing? Star player gets hurt? It’s like listening to a rock. I think I can hear him loading his 45 in the booth just getting ready to put himself out of his misery. Pathetic.

Grow up PA. Do your job regardless of the circumstances.

He’s way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, over the top.

    Paul Allen has to go.

I like him for the most part. The “cold blooded strike” is the one I can’t stand.

If he called it with even enthusiasm regardless of which team is winning that would be one thing. I mean I’d still think he was awful but at least he’d be acting like a pro.

If I can tell which team is winning just by the tone or your voice after 10 seconds then you suck at your job. We’re the fans. You be the pro.

He treats his radio listeners the same way…….. like 12 year olds. But, you gotta give it to him there are very few nfl announcing jobs and he has one of them.

My thoughts, he’s a VIKINGS announcer. Not paid to be unbiased. He’s emotional. You will absolutely know who’s winning by his tone. He’s a lot better than some of the others. I like him. Dan Gladden for the Twins……… sleeping sleeping sleeping

But does he kneel or stand for the national anthem?

I like him. Original and eccentric style, if you want your cookie cutter broadcasters have at em. Perhaps the emotional part could be dummied down a bit, but him and Pete on broadcasting skill level is great.

Bring back Joe McConnell (he’s long gone I’m sure). May have been even more excitable than PA, but he was awesome to listen to. I was once driving from Minneapolis to Rochester and listening to Joe on the radio. He was so lathered up about a comeback I had to pull off at the Black Stallion and watch the end of the game. The place was rockin, with the TV sound turned off and Joe blasting on the radio.

Exciting to listen to, yet not a 12 year old dork with a “schtick” delivery.

PA is the best in the biz in my opinion. Remember he works for the Vikings, as well as being a huge fan, so he is going to favor the Purple. The same as every teams radio play by play guy does. It’s the NFL/Network guys who should stay neutral. AND….HE’S….LOOOOOSE!!

I like PA and Kevin Harlan… the little bit I have heard, you can get rid of Romo already. Harlan call

Why should he be “neutral”? That is the worst suggestion I’ve ever heard. It’s the Vikings radio channel for crying out loud. I want the emotion. At least it’s genuine, which is getting tougher to find these days.

I’m not looking for monotone, the enthusiasm and vigor are fine. He’s just such a baby when they’re not playing well or something goes wrong. bawling

I’m not a Vikings fan, but I’m a huge football fan and I’ve listen to many radio broadcasts over the years, college and NFL. I have never heard any other team’s play-by-play guy mope away an afternoon like PA does when things go “pear-shaped,” to use one of his favorite terms.

    I’m not a Vikings fan

That’s the problem. It’s geared towards Vikings fans!

Plus, losing Cook is a HUGE deal. You almost can’t make up the sheer torture that us Vikings fans have had to endure. One thing after another, for decades. Don’t even get me started smash

Funny, most games I listen to sound like they’re geared toward football fans.

If you are listening in MN, you will only hear home announcers for the Vikings and Gophers, every other college/NFL game you hear is a neutral broadcaster for a national broadcast.

You think PA is bad, at least there’s only 16 games in the NFL season.

Try listening to Hawk Harrelson for the White Sox. A few more games in their season and he is even more of a homer.

I actually find it funny, if they lose in walk-off fashion he is normally just silent in the booth for like a minute straight.

NFL Game Pass comes with live “hometown” radio streaming. I didn’t renew this year but listened to a lot of games while on the road last year.

Also the hometown gophers announcers, twins announcers, wild announcers, wolves announcers, etc. — None of them mope the way PA does.

That Harlan call is gold. I do also enjoy PA and Kevin Harlan. As a packer fan I like Wayne Larrivee but Larry Mccarran can get a bit old.

I’d rather have a homer calling its Vikings radio not NFL radio when I listen which I haven’t been. It annoys me when Kare 11’s website shows the sports results like: warriors beat wolves should be wolves lost I pull for our teams because their our teams

X2, Although you misspelled Bob Uecker last name “Euchre” like the card game. Euchre (the card game) around Madison and central Wisconsin…”sheepshead” around Milwaukee area. Same but not the same. Did you know that?

    Bob Uecker… toast

Played a ton of euchre (tho I prefer pfeffer!) and listened to a ton of Eucker growing up. Will always think of my grandpa and smile when I hear Eucker’s voice so I’m a biased fan there. When I was a kid Eucker filled in the spaces gloriously for me between Yount and Molitor at-bats.

I can appreciate that PA is that same sort of thing for Vikings homers, i just objectively think he’s bad at his job. But I get that he’s tailoring to the purple kool aid crowd.
