I thought I would start this to make people think of why they started an account here.

For me I would be on LSF before I found this site but never joined, I hate usernames and passwords. I was sitting back looking on here before I joined and what made me join was the awesome people here and there willingness to help others with knowledge, or even offering help. I remember someone posted they lost/ someone stole there fishing gear and there were offers to lend or give them some gear. I thought this is something I want to be a part of.

Please think about what makes this site great and different from others that have passed on or will soon. I think most people on here are great people and have a lot to share. So lets get it back there!

Pretty much the same as you John. Started on LSF, had a buddy tell me about this site & the YouTube videos from IDO. Never looked back. Enjoy this site for a lot of things. But, like you, the helpfulness & info on here is pretty dang good. Even if a couple threads do go off the rails, I just get some popcorn & scroll thru. Sometimes its better than anything on the TV.

I was LSF and Fishing MN before that. I’m not on FB, so for me, this is literally my only social media. Primarily joined for outdoor info and reports, but do enjoy various other helpful information I have recieved (irrigation system, driveway info, etc) as well as some current events perspectives on occasion.

I saw a decal on the wall at the Windmill Marina (www.fishtheriver.com) and thought maybe I could get some St Croix river tips since I couldn’t catch anything using everything my dad taught me.

I had no idea how much help the members here gave me. Mike Westman was the first guy to go out with me if I recall and there were many since.

The members of IDO have filled a dream I didn’t know I had.

As the site get larger, I truly hope I never lose sight of helping others as others have helped me (and still have a little fun on the side).

About 10 years ago I wanted to get back into ice fishing (took a break for a while). While researching augers came across this site along with iceshanty and HSO outdoors. Joined all 3. HSO used to be my favorite but that went downhill. Now I mostly just visit here and every once in a while iceshanty.

I like the people and sense of community. I wish i had more to offer in terms of advice. So many here have been helpful.

Because all the morons I can’t stand are on two other sites that I avoid more than the plague.

Was told about fishtheriver by Scott Hunter. I scanned through a bunch of threads and was wowed by the quality of people and their generosity. Was a perfect match for me, so I dove in

i dont recall how i found this site. think it popped up somehow as i go to different sites, like some said i was on LSF and FM. well i apparently had behavior problems according to some there so i looked around. i am still an active members of several other sites, here FM and MNO.

this site has brought me a wealth of info on river fishing, even though i prefer lakes devil . and as others have said a pile of information of all kinds. i was a bit shy of posting at first but got over that. i began to recognize names here, Tom Savell for one. this is a really good site in my opinion.

as far as the political stuff, i read it till i get bored of it, but i really like to see and hear others opinions, agree or not. wether we like it or not it is a subject that is part of and influences our daily life.

I joined due to the quality of info and great community here, and was motivated by the deterioration of LSF. Little did I know I’d get to meet celebrities like the Godfather James Holst, the infamous Malmo Mafioso Will Roseberg and Yeti Spokesperson Matt Moen. But seriously I’ve made a lot of friends and learned a ton.

New to the interwebs, I was searching for anything related to walleye fishing the Mississippi and found IDO. Joined, and in short order learned so much from a great group of folks whom would genuinely help a guy learn. My walleye game on the river jumped considerably because of this place. Some days I even catch one.
Seriously though…this site has seen some recent crappy arguing, but I hope that’ll subside(???), because the original spirit of this site that I found so many years ago still exists here, it just sometimes gets scattered.
The people on this site, overall, have been incredibly helpful and supporting to each other over the years, so even though you didn’t ask, that’s why I’m still here.

I wanted a Skeeter. The other site just wasn’t providing enough info. Plus, as a Yamaha guy, I got tired of all the ETEC blustering. How the tides have turned.

Wanted to figure out how to catch walleyes on the river. Had spent the better part of 2 summers trolling for them without catching one. Still trying to figure it out.

Was just starting social media, posted my 6 year old daughter with a 20 inch ice fishing walleye on Fishing Mn. That post got some comments and then got dusted because they do not allow dead animal pictures… I thought it was a hunting/fishing website. Oh, well time to move on.
Came here, posted the same picture and enjoyed all the glowing comments. Had a great experience so I stayed. Learning, helping, teaching, and eventually was asked to be on the field staff which lead to more helping, teaching and making some great friends. As a field staffer, I got to post some fishing/hunting reports while featuring my kids, family and friends.
As the site grew, changes had to happen, the report section disappeared, most of the staff members were let go, it was becoming a big time business with the release of the first dvd, and tv show coming around the corner. Some of the staffers left, some are still lurking in the shadows, others are still helping just as the did before. All the while, BK gave up catfishing and started eating Spam..
Even with all the site change, political threads, and potstirring, IDO still is one of the best fishing resources for the upper midwest as so much information is passed along behind the scene in personal messages.

Interesting to learn there are more of you than I thought that were members of the LSF community. neutral

I myself being a member of the LSF community (chuckle) some years back, first became aware of IDO when “surprisingly” there was a heated thread about some guy over here on IDO advocating cutting out walleye cheeks. He even offered up recipes for such.

On LSF, I referred to him as the “recipe funny man” from IDO. lol

Little did I know, I’d end up sharing a boat on the river one night with the “recipe funny man” a few years later.

LSF crashed and burned and I migrated here and never really looked back.

As other’s have already mentioned, I have learned a lot from this site including things I never knew existed. It has been informative, entertaining, and yes…comradery and fellowship.

I’ve also had the added benefit of meeting members in person while selling our buying treasures.

Also some of which I’ve had the pleasure to hang out with, fish together in a boat or fish house for an afternoon or a day.

Happy that this forum exists as it has opened many doors in my little world and I do hope we can keep it going.

I came here to meet people like Kory. People who could watch me catch world class fish and not be apologetic for drinking all my beer while doing it.

The name of the place………”In-Depth Outdoors” seemed like the perfect place to talk politics & solve the worlds problems. wink

Once upon a time a long, long time ago before Facebook the place was loaded with info. Still some good info here you just need to work to get it. The lost personalities will never be replaced. bawling
