Why are the Vexilar FLX-30 selling so cheap?

Curious if I made a mistake. Is there a reason the FLX-30 are selling so cheap? Are they underperforming units and not selling as expected? Just cant wrap my head around it. I know there is a newer model for sale and that drives down the prices but these units are still selling for less than the FLX-28? I’ve seen them selling brand new for as low as $250!

I havent seen them that cheap, my son just got the pro pack or whatever its called and with his discount it was considerably more than that, but still a good deal. His came with the lithium battery but didnt have the glow ring.
I am guessing they just have a ton of inventory and are just trying to blow them out with newer models out. My son’s coworkers all say its a great unit so I am sure he will be happy with it.

I have to believe that with all of the people choosing FFS it has to hurt the sales of flashers. I myself have not brought my flasher fishing in a few years.

I agree. I have live scope also and love having it in the shack or house but prefer my vex for hole hopping. Live scope shuttles suck for hopping around in my opinion.

X2. A live system plus a flasher is a great combo when hole hopping.

Yes, they are very awkward because they are so dang heavy. Once the black box is gone, which I know some newer ones dont require it that makes a huge difference.

They are making room for the flx38. I scored the labor day deal for 249. Gave it to my kid so we both have the 30 now

I for one will always love staring at a vexilar for hours on end for ever. Live imaging is awesome in its own way but there’s something about hunkering down in a shack and staring at that vexilar that I will never give up. Nostalgic.

I would assume that also but why are the FLX-28’s more expensive then?

I think the 28 will live on and the 30 is discontinued. But I could be wrong

Along with FFS, I also think it has to do with the conversion kits of humminbirds are making a dent in the sales. I also think the Vexilars are more for the die hard anglers.

You can also just go online pickup a FL18 for like $120 that will last for years. Vexilars are like K-Cars they just keep on going and going.

What is different between the two? Never had a Vexilar. I personally have never liked their version of zoom. I want to zoom anywhere in the water column not some predefined range.

That makes sense to me. Never thought about that. The 38 has the broad band ducer and maybe vexilar only wants one unit available with it so they’re discontinuing the 30 as to not take away from the sales of the newer more expensive 38? There is a demand for a multi cone angle ducer and now that the tri-beam and duel beam are no longer available that would only leave one choice.

Gee thanks Charles. Luckily I’d almost successfully forgotten about how ugly K-cars were and now I have to start over.

The new 38 would be for you then. You can put the auto zoom anywhere you would like in the water column.

I’ve noticed shallow water walleye on a few lakes I fish will spook from the live. I’m not sure if it’s the signal, or the ducer, but they’ll come onto the screen and jet the other way. When that happens, I drop my FLX20 on em.

Cool! Only about 30 years after Marcum had done it. It really is a game changer. Im not getting anything new I have enough crap and for the amount I fish its good enough. I prefer to use graph mode anyway so I use my LX7. I do like the looks of the flx30 my son got, he prefers the dial which many do. I said good then you dont mess with my settings when you use my crap LOL

Not sure where your son works but he might want to return it and get a cheaper one? The $250 head unit only was over labor day, whole thread here on it.

I picked up a FLX-30 Ultra pack from Scheels they had it on sale for $499 and by applying for a Scheels credit card I received a $100 gift card. Couldn’t pass it up for $399

Even if I owned a FFS unit, I would hot hit the ice without a flasher. I could not see myself moving that FFS setup from hole to hole. To me FFS is a tool to use to located the fish and the flasher is the tool to use to catch the fish.

you hit the nail on the head you are 100% correct! I will say live scope is a huge advantage in catching fish also though. It is nice to have when u found the fish and are set up on them in the shack or house.

that’s what he got. Are they all the broadband? That is what his is too. Let’s just say he got it for over 150 less than I could.

Yes the FLX-30 and the new FLX-38 are both broad band and are the only two head units that can use the broadband ducer.

I played around with a 38 at Scheels and it’s not as bad as I thought it would be to operate, but it’s reaching the ceiling of what you can do with just dials. Regret buying a 30 now and I can’t really dump it with the discount prices on new units and taking that kind of loss. Going to wait for a sale and pick up a 38.

Not to mention you pretty much need a separate hole for the transducer and pole mount if you are using it to fish. Waiting for the prices to drop and the tech to evolve (shrink in size) a bit.
