I have seen a lot of Otter flip over shacks for sale not only on this site but others lately. Everyone looking to upgrade to the X-Overs? Other brands?

Just curious as most of the shacks, especially here on IDO seem to be in great shape with only a year or two of use. Makes me think the X-Overs are going to be a hot item this winter.

People just getting the latest and greatest or getting out of it. Though most seem to be in love with their shacks by some of the prices I’ve seen on CL and FB. Might as well look for a new one when the sales start coming up here soon.

The X-Over presents a solution (frabill was first) to the issue of too much crap to walk over to get out the flip-over design front door problem. I’ve heard from alot of folks who are waiting a year to see how the new system holds up (myself included) and that the most frequent issue with portable shacks is with the zippers going bad and Otter just added 2 more to the equation…the design looks pretty bullet-proof but only time and use will tell…

I think there are a few guys that either Rep for Otter or get great discounts from Otter. I bought my shack off IDO a couple years ago. The guy I bought it from had 2 or 3 for sale at the end of that year. They were all bought new at the beginning of that year. I saved a couple hundred bucks. Only complaint was he advertised it with a cover that hadn’t been used. When I tried using the cover, the cover didn’t match the shack (it was for a small otter sled). I got to spend an extra 60.00 on a cover.

I literally just got ordered the “old” style Otter resort for $695 from a retailer locally. When I called to order it I asked the person on the phone why so cheap? Thinking it was floor demo from last year. His response was they won’t sell good with the X-Overs coming out this year. I had absolutely no intention of getting a new one but couldn’t pass this up. So I’ll be looking into donate my old resort to a high school fishing club.

Funny how when you go looking for jigs and terminal tackle you end up with a new shack. Guthook is right we are all junkies on here. My only problemis I like to fish things that have very specific gear, Muskies, Salmon trolling on Lake Michigan, and ice fishing.

Why anyone would think their used house is worth $20-50 less than a brand new one is beyond me.

I agree with you. If I can buy new with warranty for only 50 bucks more, I’m buying new.

Whenever I’ve sold mine, I factor sales tax and included accessories when coming up with my used price. Obviously condition is the biggest factor in the price…prices will always be higher in the Fall vs Spring…some people value a pre-built house vs the hour or two it might take them to put it together…

We have a few for sale up here in Canada too. I’m thinking its because we’ve had 3 pretty easy winters up here, most guys can just hop in their trucks and head out on Lake Winnipeg. A lot of these guys are changing back to hubs. Once we get a heavy snow winter (like whats expected this year) guys will probably regret their decisions. I love my lodge and wouldn’t even consider selling it unless it was to upgrade into the X-Over

its too bad the only new otter houses you can buy come with the side entry door. Although nice, I wish I didn’t have to pay the premium for the side door if I dont want it. Rather than having to deal with stepping over all the gear in front of you to use the front entry door, I’ve always used the rear door and its solved that issue. I’m in the market for an otter cabin but dont want to buy new because I dont want to pay the premium for the side door. Hopefully I’ll find a used one close to me and reasonably priced.

That’s exactly how I see it. Zippers are by far the weakest link in any portable ice house I’ve seen.

Now would be the time to snatch up on of the older model shacks for cheap. The new ones were getting blown out last fall in preparation for these X-Overs.
