ust so we are on the same page. I’m in the market for a flag pole for my shack. Is 20 ft tall enough? I’ll get a flag that reads iceman

I will give the standard IDO answer (SIDOA):

You need to max it. Go with the 60 footer. Otherwise your resale value will suffer.

If i could only roll afford an Ice Castle

You can’t catch fish unless you have a group of guys with flag poles. Otherwise fish dont come to that area.
Unless that’s what the flood light and spot light are for. Attracting fish. Or other dudes? moon

Because I’m pretty sure there isn’t a single chick who says oh wow look at that strobe light.
It’s more guys saying “dudes I just bought a 400 dollar flag pole. What flag should I get”

Sorry I just had to do it. That was one of the funniest posts ever. I am in the wheelhouse group. The flags don’t really bother me, but all the lights are kinda stupid. I hope I don’t get kicked off the ICOG for admitting that……

Must all these ice castle owners get a flag pole and strobe lights. Seen a community of them this weekend.

Sorry if you have one and I offend you.

were you on Red by chance. I attended an event with Fishing With Vets friday night till sunday noon. Maybe 10 or so ice castles from guides in an area and most of them had a US flag flying high for the event. Strobe lights would be crazy if on all the time but fly the flag high I say. )

The flags never bothered me either. Just that this particular group all had the same one. I’ve seen hundreds of them at poutfest. I’m thinking of making the trip this year for it with the wheelhouse.

I’m actually looking into a way to rig a small wind generator to the top of the house. Something I can put on and take off and just have a plug for it. Sometimes the solar panel doesn’t get much sun out there, but you can usually count on the wind. Plus it works all day and night. Does anyone have any experience with something like that?

I have 2 12v incandescent lights. Enough for me to see if I’m peeing on my gear when I step outside…Been thinking about adding a 5-6″ LED bar on the front so I can avoid digging for my headlamp when I go out to fill my generator…but I’m lazy and procrastinate…and now it’s too cold to work on it…

I feel half of the strobes and flashing lights are for the drunks that forget to drop a pin or waypoint on their house before they head into the bar to get even more hitfaced…

New wheelhouse owner here. whistling Ours has white led light strips around the top perimeter. I was thinking they would be good to leave on at night for visibility so we don’t get t-boned by a snowmobile or anything. That was my thought at least.

If they don’t flash, is that acceptable or still annoying to others that may be in the vicinity? Honest question from a noob owner.

It depends what they are. I put a regular dim out side light. So it’s not bright enough to bother people. Because when your out camping there is nothing more annoying in your windows then a really bright light and strobe from your neighbor

I’m super rich and have 2 Ice Castle’s – I also own all color and size combinations of Yeti Coolers, Hoppers, Tumblers, and can coozies. I don’t even read the threads on this site about bargain cooler reviews – I mean, are you kidding me?

Ice Castle 1 (hence referred to as IC1) has a disco ball, flashing lights, and a huge neon sign that reads “Catch Fish Here” with an arrow pointing down at the ice. IC1’s only goal in life is to draw in all the followers and herd fisherman to a tight grouping.

Ice Castle 2 (hence referred to as IC2) is my stealth fish fighting machine. It’s painted winter camo with black out shades. IC2 is always on the fish but due to it’s stealth, no one ever fishes around me. Sure, a few unknowing snowmobilers have hit IC2 since it’s nearly invisible but that’s the price you pay (and, being super rich I just buy a new one).

See you on the lake…..or will you?

    Eyeguy.

Pretty sure if your out doing fishing with or 4 vets that’s a complete different story.

Unless you’ve never been on any normal lake in the last 3 years when these flag poles talking pabst or ice face or what ever with the bright ass lights going all night and being rude 90 percent of the time.

And it’s not my fault most those things all go together

Reflectors are for safety. Street lights on your shack are to brag to your buddies when they drive by a lake they can see you out there

If a shack has those and they’re dimmed way down it doesn’t bother me much at all, I’m sure most guys feel the same.

But those full strip LED’s on full blast are one step below a strobe…..(IMO)

As for the flags, I couldn’t care less.

When it’s dark outside and I’m trying to sleep I can’t see them.

Note to self- add dimmer switch to Yetti exterior LEDs. Bask in approval of fellow fisherman and share beers with new friends that appreciate my dimmed LEDs.

    Boom…done.

Serious note- might be an easy mod to the existing switch panel. Simple dial dimmer tied into back of the switch. Will have to look into that one of these days.

Edit- second thought…All unnecessary. Don’t need LEDs for safety when amongst small city wheelhouses because all the other citioits will have theirs on. LEDs on for safety when all alone and no one will be around to complain anyway.

wouldnt you just love to run over to those guys’s shack and jerk the governor wide open on the generator, about two seconds of it turning ten grand would make the lights extremely bright just before they and the generator blew !!
man what a show that would be !!

I guess what it should really come down to is what you want to see when you look out your window.

Do you want to see a bunch of strobe lights and 5,000,000 candle power LED light bars in every color of the rainbow from other shacks??

    I don’t….so I don’t have them…..

If any of you here feel the need to have them on your shack and think it’s “cool”….I’ll provide you with a huge mirror to shine and flash those lights directly back into your shack….It turns “cool” into “fabulous”….. mrgreen

Yetti lights are more for sight lighting. I leave mine on when people in my group need to do stuff outside… I also leave them on if I head to the bar at night, makes locating the house easier. I mostly have them off though, wouldn’t waste time trying to dim them.

Hard water is great. Until every one and there mother is out party time on all the lakes around. And it’s still fun then. Just have to fish outside the box. Say if every one rushes to forest lake. Most pass 20 small lakes holding very nice less pressured fish.

Make sure to put the flag pole up otherwise people won’t know where you are. Then after dark leave the spot lights on, who really cares about everyone else any ways

Also can not stand the strobes. Hopefully its a fad that fades away soon! It just amazes me how close people set up but people in boats do the same….. I don’t have a flag but maybe I’ll fly one that says “strobes suck”

OMG. Saw the strobes first hand just driving around garrison. I recant everything. They are ungodfully annoying. I think it’s actually near Twin Pines? You’ll see it drinks on 169.
