Whose still on the ice?! I was able to get out with Cody and Jess to chase some tullibee. An absolute blast to catch and this is the best time of year to chase them!

Probably done in the states for me. Still have a Lake trout trip planned for April on Clearwater.

Still out fishing, should be another 2 weeks or so until I hang it up. Things are just starting to get good with the warmer water and no snow pack on the ice.

Osakis yesterday and today. Accesses are pretty ugly. 20″ of ice past that. There’s a few ATV out there, but I wouldn’t chance it, not with the accesses looking the way they do. I got stuck big-time last week in a surprise 18″ deep slush pocket.

Fishing is mediocre. Lots of small bluegills up north with a few decent ones mixed in. Crappies around Battle were 35-40′ deep yesterday, so you can’t catch and release those.

I can’t find anymore lakes nearby that don’t require a ladder to get on. Here’s some pics from yesterday of the Hill Access and Battle Point.

Yuck, I’m hoping to get out at least this weekend a day or two. I’ve been down at the red river up here looking for those big walleye that are gonna want to spawn soon!

Hopefully some more tullibee this weekend then will probably put the ice gear all but away for the season. Weather isn’t looking so good up here for our ice. Shorelines aren’t great, if you can get a wheeler on, there’s still more than enough ice but it’s quickly coming to a close.

That being said, I’m not upset the ice is leaving. I’ve been itching to get in a boat for a couple weeks now since it started getting warm!!!

I’m going back up near Grand Rapids for Perch. Last weekend was a lot of fun, we were getting them pretty shallow. Less ice should allow better hole hopping and sight fishing options compared to last weekend.

I’ll be using a paddleboat or canoe to get out this weekend in southern MN. If the ice is melted past the weed line, I’ll be using open water rods in the boat…

If panfish are what you usually fish now is a great time-you might have to walk but lots of you do that first ice-you can wait for open water but face it till that water is say 60 things are unpredictable, or downright bad. Can’t pick your day because you work? Now you are stuck bouncing in a boat, NW winds- Fish this time of year are not always smokin’ (often they are) but you have the option of sitting in a warm shack and give them that precise fineese presentation you could never deliver in a boat-yep even with all your tech. Love having spots to myself, could use some more company though.

Was able to get out on a small metro area lake yesterday. Landed around 25 crappies in an hour, all under 8″ though. I even found a beer in my bag, and $20 in my jacket! Was a good end to the season.

Fished near Mankato on Saturday. Broke through around shore and found about 8″ of absolute crap ice towards the middle with a few spots of open water. Pounded the bluegills in about 11′. The flasher was lit up like a Christmas tree and they were as active and ferocious as I’ve seen them all year. Great way to end the season.

Went out north of Duluth yesterday. No fish. Lots of ice, not pulling from shore at all, there’s a long way to around here until that hot last-ice bite (if I can find it around here.)

We pounded them on Sat as well. It was nice to finally get into some late ice Gills. The second lake we checked was accessible with a lot of ice once you got past the shore area. Guess what I’m eating tonight? mrgreen

Got out again on Sunday for some more tullibees, ended with 17, another fun day but that might conclude my ice fishing season with near 60s coming this Friday through Monday
