Bemidji and Duluth East. The North shall rise again!

Interesting to see St. Thomas Academy putting on the big boy pants finally and still making it to state. Kind of embarrassing, I’d think, after all those years of saying their small overall enrollment was the reason why they had to play in the small school bracket.

Isn’t it time for an automatic promotion system? Make the quarter finals in the A category and you are automatically promoted up the following year. Discuss.

I’m not a big hockey fan but I’ve always loved watching the high school hockey tournament. A long time before I ever knew where it was I decided I was a Roseau fan so if they are in it this year I’ll be rooting for them

No Roseau, no Warroad, no Grand Rapids.

Doesn’t seem right, does it. I’d like to see Bemidji make a run.

I’m going for the underdog Edina. I think they will win their 13th state title this year. Go Hornets.

Snow has been a rare commodity this winter, but following with tradition it’s showing up for tourney week.

With STA stepping into the AA class (long overdue, IMO), I am pulling for them. I guess having a nephew playing for them makes me just a tad bit biased as well…….. who would ever think an Iron Ranger would be cheering for St Thomas? lol.

Where should I send your slice of cake? jester jester jester

Your Iron Ranger citizenship has just been revoked. You are now official on the “barred from entry list” at the Sawmill Saloon. Take heart though, they would have revoked it even faster if you’d have been caught cheering for Hill Murray or Edina.

Bemidji is my longshot favorite for sentimental reasons. I was there the last time they were in the tournament.

I remember watching in 1986, there was a kid from Bemidji playing that year, his name was George Pelawa. He had it all and everybody knew it. Size, speed, skating, timing, and he was smart.

I was sitting at center ice and when the first Bemidji game started I suddenly noticed that the old Civic Center was almost full. Everybody knew who Pelawa was and everybody wanted to see him.

I was sitting a row above 4 guys who were dressed in suits and were furiously taking notes on clipboards and whispering amongst themselves. At the break, they all stood up and I said, “So which NHL team are you guys scouting for?”

“Nooha, we’re just here to watch the hockey,” one of them said, in a crisp Canadian accent. Yeah, right.

Pelawa was drafted in the top 20 that year, by Calgary I believe, and he tragically died in a car accident that summer.

The level of hockey played at the High School Tourney has always astonished me.

Duluth East. Shocker! Those kids have some grit to get down by 3 and climb back in it against a team like STA.

Just watching Hill Murray vs LVN. Tied at 1. Very evenly matched. This LOOKS like a championship game.

Yes, it’s going to take a lot to stop the LVN train. Wow. And just listening, it sounds like every senior on the team is headed for D1 next year. Wow.

Edina vs. LVN in the championship…should be a good game but my money would on Edina. They handle the puck and skate so well.

The best thing that could happen to Edina is for Eden Prairie to shock LVN and take them out. I can’t see it happening. EP looked good last night, but LVN is on a totally different level.

I’d be a little wary of looking too far past Duluth East if I were Edina.

Correction. I’d be a LOT wary of Duluth East. They just oplain old outplayed Edina for all 3 periods.

I’ve watched every televised game so far. For Hermantown to pull their goalie and score two goals in the last minute and tie it up was amazing.

That was amazing, Hermantown, always a bridesmaid.
