free bird guitar solo is blaring,
Could be the best guitar solo of all time!!
Brad DimondPosts: 1452February 20, 2021 at 6:55 pm #2016482No, Duane Allman and Dickie Betts on Blue Sky (technically not a solo).

I think jimi has some better but free bird has more energy then any other one I’ve heard. Really gets you going. Tonight it hasn’t seemed to impress the fish and get them biting however

Haha thanks for the tip eelpout. I haven’t fished carsons in probably 3 years. It’s usually too crowded. Normally I fish on the west side but today I made my way to Wayzata Bay to an old walleye spot I know. Nothing but dink perch so far but being in my little one man portable never felt better
Frog farmPosts: 55February 20, 2021 at 10:39 pm #2016510Carson’s was beyond good 50yrs ago, same with big island bay, st Albans, Tonka bay, excelsior bay, & many others. As for guitar riffs- joe bonamassa woke up dreaming from the royal Albert hall is unreal.
February 21, 2021 at 8:51 am #2016540I was out in the morning. Nice crappie bite to start the morning and then at noon it completely died. Marks all over the place but couldn’t move them with anything.

Why are all these locations you speak of so poor now compared to 50 years ago? I wasn’t even around that long ago but my guess is angling pressure and harvest has contributed to this.
I fish Tonka in the spring for crappies and I personally think it’s still the best lake in the area for quality and quantity of crappies.
February 21, 2021 at 11:33 am #2016578Don’t waste you’re time on Tonka, Dead sea.
I was able to dig up a pic from 50 years ago.

February 21, 2021 at 1:29 pm #2016592I drove around parts of Tonka today to see what was going on. The last time I did this was at the beginning of the cold snap with only a few trucks out. Now there are trucks all over. I saw someone in a spot I thought only old guys knew about. It looked like a younger dad and his son. Maybe the location was passed down in a will.
I am going to fish some of my old spots this week. Just bought the Milwaukee 2803-22 kit and an adapter for my 6-inch lazer hand auger. Excited to see how it works.February 22, 2021 at 8:35 am #2016751Yeah I have a spot on Minnetonka that i fished 50 years ago in early January and did well enough for a couple meals. Don’t worry, I threw back the big crappies. They should be 50 inchers by now

February 23, 2021 at 8:22 am #2017094Got out yesterday on Tonka. Milwaukee drill with 6-inch lazer bit was better than expected. Drilled about 8 holes. Went around with the LiveScope and then drilled a few more to get on the fish. It saved a lot of drilling and searching to find the fish. Crappies weren’t snapping but caught several. Moved to another spot and the bluegills bit decent. Kept 3 of each. My young lab got to taste fish slime for the first time. Heading out again this afternoon.

February 26, 2021 at 5:38 pm #2018135This morning I went to the spot I thought only old guys knew about. I probably fished this spot for the first time 50 years ago!!
Caught a mix of bluegill and crappie and a couple large mouth. Just before the biggest crappie, 12″, the flasher showed a huuuuge mark. Felt a big thunk and set the hook. Fought it for 10 minutes before I got it to the hole. Didn’t fight like a northern or walleye so I was thinking a big bass. Turned out to be ~8# carp. I was trying to get it started up the 6″ hole and my 4# test line broke with the white glow wonder bread #4 tungsten jig in its mouth. Fun morning. Fishing that spot brought back a lot of memories of family and friends. Pics are a 14″ bass and the moon set.Attachments:

Do you mean mud minnows? Those things rock for bait!
