It appears that one of the IDO members has finally lost it….and it was a toss up of who it was going to be first. Personally I had my money on someone else….a certain someone that cruises around in a Superman onesie maybe???

On a serious note sounds like a sad story, I remember that he had a young daughter the couple times I saw him on P4. I only hope that the mom and daughter have long since moved out and are living in better conditions.

Onestout, I have to go through a couple of years of PM’s but wasn’t it you that was telling me the government was buying his dogs and complimenting him on his breeding skills?

One thing that bothers me about the article is that it fails to mention that the “house” was more of a barn.

Now I’m not sticking up for this fellow, but I get the feeling of a slant on reporting here. Just a gut feeling.

I agree on the reporting, major slant going on with it. Most of what Stu said is true that they prefer smaller spaces and raw meet is better for them but from the story it seems to have gone a bit to far. I don’t recall if I posted it or it was from discussion but Stu said he was working on training a dog for the govt., I thought like a bomb sniffing dog or something, don’t remember.

Overall just a sad deal, hopefully this intervention helps to turn things around.

Man I’d love to meet a guy like that someday. I know what his dogs would be having for dinner…RR

Very sad story… I feel horrible for the dogs but I do also feel sad for Stu.

Again, I didn’t see it personally but he and others told me that he possessed a permit from the county or state to pick up car hit deer along the roads to feed his dogs with. I took that to mean in the winter time but it wasn’t specified.

Be careful with those home made mouse traps. Finding a dead mouse in a water filled tote could list you on the front page of the Hudson paper.

Wonder if this reporter was ever in a hog barn?

I guess this will all come out in the legal process.

Nothing illegal about feeding the dogs roadkill deer in WI and the raw meat diet is good for the dogs. The problem is that the raw meat needs to be kept in the freezer to preserve it which it doesn’t sound like he was doing.

It sure is. Writing sure can lead the reader down an intended path though. I don’t know if he truly had any kind of relationship with the government or not but the author paints a picture of the type of dillusional guy that puts tin foil on his windows.

Whatever the circumstances I hope if medical help is needed that he gets it.

    *sigh*

I seem to remember a PM exchange with him some time ago, well before the link above. He seemed to be caring and knowledgeable, but there also were some things I had to ask him to explain, because I wasn’t following him.

    This…

Members of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the Animal Humane Society (AHS) seized the dogs

Nice to know the dogs are in that hands of people who really aren’t concerned with pet welfare unless of course there is $$$ involved.

Stu had mentioned to me about training the ais dogs for the mn dnr. I didnt read the entire article. Did they just not like that the dogs where being feed deer? My dogs main diet is raw meat and that does include some venison. Especially the bones. Pretty sure he would be air humping if he ever got ahold of a road kill deer.

WOW… ok, even if there is a slant to the writing, the base of observations and such sure lead you to think this was a terrible situation. I like many participated in a number of threads with him here over the years. He always seemed a little odd, but quite nice and quick to offer help on things. I’m now actually glad I never hooked up with him on any or the fishing trips mentioned.

    Disturbing for sure….

16 dead dogs in the barn? Even if there was a legitimate reason to be in the barn still how are there 16 of them?

Don’t know the fellow but in reading his posts always seemed he cared about the animals and knew his stuff. Ill give the benefit as well, but after that article…. man it’s hard.

Always wondered what his responses of “follow”, “follow up”, etc were on some posts, or am I confusing with another?

16 dead dogs in the barn? Are you guys f***ing kidding me? I’m sure any of you that are attempting to defend him leave your family pets that have died out in the garage for a while as well…………….

After hearing a lot of what the reporter exaggerated on I am still disgusted. He was also not giving the dogs their vaccines and what not. Did he have the original dogs tested to see if their DNA was ok to be properly reproducing even? I made a mistake when I was 25 purchasing a springer spaniel from a lady in Northern Wisconsin. I was told that the dog was tested for any and all diseases that are linked with springer spaniels. I trained the dog and he was performing awesome. A little over a year old he went through a type of auto immune disorder that I later found out to be PFK deficiency. It is a disease that only runs in the line of English Springer Spaniels. It cost me $2600 to basically revive him and get him blood transfusions, test for disease, and build his body back to normal. I went back to the breeder and they denied everything. I then sent the Wisconsin Ag Department on their ass and they lost out big time. If you are going to breed dogs do it responsibly. When you are going to buy dogs, do your research and don’t support irresponsible breeders.
I have since purchased a yellow lab and took my time picking out the breeder and went to meet her and her puppies and dogs. Everything is documented and I have had great success. The springer is still a great dog, but I can’t hunt him anymore. He is a glorified house dog that wants to hunt and retrieve anything in sight as that what his first year of life was all about. Its kind of sad.

Back to this clown, Don’t fool yourselves. Any responsible dog breeder is taking care of their animals. They all will have sufficient food, water, space to move around in. I don’t care what kind of reporter this person is that wrote it, I have heard about this guys operations a while ago. While I am not a fan of the ascpa, peta, this guy deserves to be locked up/mental help. There are two sides to every story and I get that, but how many of you treat a sole dog the way these animals were treated?

Here is my main rub with Stuwest and his “Kennels”. If you are going to own and run a dog breeding business, do it right. This guy was running a puppy mill. It’s obvious he did not have the means to take care of basic needs. He relied on road kill and sickened cows for food. I believe he spent little or nothing to buy dog food or even basic vet care for his dogs. Guys like this should be stopped. 48 dogs taken? Damn shame.

Wareagle, I’ll go out on a limb and say most here probably agree with you fully, its that stupid tale of the boy who cried wolf with the media nowadays and there are those stories that are false, for whichever motive, and destroys the man/woman its about in a way unfixable. Hence the wait to see what comes about……

Thanks for the link with references and other info.

Sure would have been nice to have pictures to accompany the article written by the author who dubbed it a puppy mill.

    I’ll wait until the verdict.

Wasn’t long ago officer Decker was shot and killed. Within hours 90% of people on the internet boards (including this one) had a guy tried and convicted. Had he been present there is no doubt people would have wanted him killed.

Further police investigation proved the guy innocent. Unfortunately his life in central Minnesota was pretty much destroyed.

We all love dogs and hate stories about stuff like this. There is no hurry in rushing to judgement, let the process work. If the story proves to be true then there will be plenty of time to vent.
