Glad to see some of you guys got some fish… Jealous! I was up with a buddy Fri and Sat night and we caught ZERO. We fished the deep break out of Red Door and the north end mudflats. Talked to a few people in the area who caught some, but overall it sounded real slow in our area.

Were any of you out for that big BOOM on Sat night??? Biggest quake I’ve ever felt – we actually had water splash up out of our holes and scared the crap out of us. Then – next morning we took the sleds out for a ride and saw that somebody had dropped the front end of their truck in on one of Red Doors roads! They said it was blocked off with cones but the guy had too much to drink so not sure what the whole story was there!

I was fortunate enough to have Thursday and Friday off of work. Thursday night fishing was good and got a couple early Friday, then it just shut off.. Only other fish I caught between Friday sunrise and Saturday sunset (although I had a couple kids hockey games Saturday, so didn’t get back fishing till sunset) was a dinky pout that went after a shiner bigger than it! Saturday night with the wind, we got a few unders. Then the Hog 28 incher early Sunday morning!

I was up at Da Boathouse having dinner with my FW when the boomer took place. So no, I missed it.. Figured it was just a matter of time with that wind whipping the way it was. Eventually I ran across a video or two showing the crack. Looked nasty!! Hopefully this warm weather doesn’t blow the Pond up too bad..

We caught 2 16″-18″ eyes and 1 nice bee in 5 bites on the sand bar Friday. Friends that were out on either the east side or north side flats had similar reports, anywhere from 2 to 10 bites between Thursday afternoon through noon Saturday, have not heard anything else since then.

I’m planning on making a day trip this Sunday and wondering which section of the lake to hit. I always seem to hit the Garrison side and have a tough day so I’m thinking either going out of Red Door or Isle Bay.

I was up at the cabin on Saturday. Got out to one of my shallow spots (10ft) for a couple of hours that afternoon. Ended up getting 4 fish. 3 that were 15-18″ and one that was around 23-24″. Also so a guy about 50 yards away from me get a good 25-28″ fish on a tip up. I wish I would have looked down my hole when I caught the 23″-24″, would have definitely been able to see it hit.

Any recent reports, going up there this weekend around red door, just wondering how the bite is and any tips on bait/lures to use would be greatly appreciated.

Well it is with some reluctance that I report this. It was dead, I was not there but have gotten the glum information. I was there the previous weekend and it was slow, plus they had a bridge fail out by the Pantry flat. This past weekend, what made matters worse was that their access collapsed Saturday night leaving all those out of Red Door scrambling to try to get off out of Barnacles. There was some anxiety for those out there as they had to try to navigate over to Barnacles in the dark with live wet cracks that had opened up. shock All got off okay, but now as of today Red Door has closed their access to all wheelhouses, 1 ton, 3/4 ton trucks. Only 1/2 ton trucks and smaller vehicles only. Good this did not happen right before our GTG out there. sad Hopefully those bringing wheelhouses to the GTG don’t read this post.

I will be back up again this weekend, going out of a secret spot I have yet to fish. SW side… whistling Hoping for better results.

I’ll be up this weekend as well. Staying in my buddy’s perm on the southeast side. Was going to go fish the north side during primetime hours but if Red Door is out of commission might have to go to the SW side as well.

Anyone have any luck this weekend, we caught zero out from Red door and talking to the guys around us it sound like they were doing the same. Thinking I may head back in about 2 weeks.

I was at my buddy’s permanent out of Lybecks and we caught one nice 25″ Friday night and didn’t have a bite all Saturday or Sunday morning before we left. Pretty brutal.

Okay, well I know now it’s not just me that’s no good at catching walleye. I went up Saturday early afternoon and stayed overnight without getting anything either. I went out off the SW side. That howling sub zero wind blew underneath the fish house and froze up the holes overnight so there went the overnight rattle reel setups. Other reports I heard was Friday night was better in advance of the snow but Saturday and Sunday …not much happening.

I’m finally getting back up this weekend after a TWO week break due to sickness and a local fishing derby last weekend,(The kids out voted me on that one)…. Been keeping an eye on the reports and I’m thinking I’ll have to change things up. We’re going to try something different this weekend. I had a couple buddies up there the last couple weekends and they also got spanked. Stay tuned for pictures…..

Well that’s the thing…it was! It still blew through the sides and floor. My first clue was the snow I tracked in when I first got there was still on the floor hours later.
Anyone out there Saturday night can attest that it was brutal wind. Hole sleeves would have helped but it was an old skid house rental. I’ve only had that happen once before many years ago in an old wooden house.

So was ours! Our holes froze up too and we ended up putting some of the alcohol we had in the holes which at least kept them only slushy, not frozen solid. Man that wind was crazy Saturday night. Had a flag around 330 am and my eyes almost froze shut! Friday night was probably better as I think we caught the tail end of the good bite. We got all set up around 7 pm as we hit crappies on East Rush on the way up. Had 4 bites from 8-11 pm. Missed 3 caught 1. Oof!

It was a slow weekend. One walleye caught. Missed a few bites, lost a couple. Caught a few perch. Nothing I’d call “jumbo” but threw back a dozen or so “eaters”. When I stepped out this morning to take a wiz this is what I was greeted with. Amazing…………

Mille Lacs does supply some pretty amazing sunrises/sunsets.
