Old man was able to take his MN bird with his bow this morning. His WI tags are punched and now MN. 18lb Jake

Birds are dropping all over the place and they sure are playing the game well this spring.

    Thanks Sticker

He was able to punch another tag yesterday afternoon in Nebraska. He left at 5AM arrived around noon got a lunch with a buddy who was already in camp. 215 he had another bird on the ground hunted about 15 minutes. Love when plans come together. 23lbs 1 inch spurs.

I have two weeks to still wait for my last two tags I cannot wait. Going to have to get some food plot work done till then.

Good luck to all still hunting.

Still a couple seasons left. The birds were fired up Saturday, was up checking plots out. Birds gobbling on their own on 3 different chunks of land almost all day long. Sure awesome to hear them fired up like that.

Hope the same is going on in WI heading up Tuesday after work. Did a little scouting a week ago and a few birds seen. Going to be warm out but hope we can get a few birds this week. Good luck if there is anyone still getting out

Curious what you all use for weighing your turkey. Only hang scale I have right now is for deer. Need something lighter weight

We just use the Rappala scale for fish up to 50lbs I think. I bring into work and double check the scale is on or what weight it’s off by to be as accurate as I can be. So far the last couple i’ve had are right on weights.

Brother and I doubled up on a couple 2 year olds over the opening fishing weekend. Him with the Benelli Nova and me with the bow. We were in different blinds calling to separate birds, but shot them within 5 minutes of each other.

No I wasn’t hunting in shorts, the pic was after recovering the birds and taking down the blinds. waytogo

A little bird told me that Hoyt4, AKA “the turkey combine” may have had some luck in WI yesterday in the heat….

Sticker, congrats to you and your Bruder.

However, looking at your faces, you both seem to be perplexed with the “modern technology” of a camera phone…

Congrats Sticker, look like a couple nice birds. You worked hard for that bird. That Turkey Cordon blue is going to taste great.

I will put up a couple pictures. We tagged out in WI was hot and tough hunting.

Here are a couple pictures from our WI season. We were able to take 5 birds. Two of us had two tags and one buddy just had one tag. Really think the predators in the area have these birds learning. They do not gobble much and if they do it’s mainly morning before fly down 2 or 3 times at the most. Over that last 5 years it’s been like this the first 10 years gobbling was heard through the day but now you don’t that gobbling in the distance or to calls very often. Still come to calls but almost ways silent now.

Hunted turkey for the first time this season. Had a few opportunities at Jake’s my first three days. Wanted to hold out for a tom. This morning, I had three Jakes come in and no signs of a tom. So I decided to take one.

Weird part of the story…my buddy was with me, and the direction these turkeys came from, I would have had to shoot right across his chest. No go. He was on my right side, as we were anticipating them more from the left. So as they walked right directly at us with him in between, we were bummed, thinking we wouldn’t get a shot. Then they turned and walked into the woods about 25 yards from us. They walked right across my line with him and came out behind his tree. While I was blocked from their view, I cautiously swing my gun to the right side of the tree. But now I’ve got to shoot 90 degrees from how I was sitting. No way to get myself in a good shooting position. So I thought, “what the heck?” I sighted in on him, holding the gun with just my right hand and bracing myself steady with my left hand on the ground. I was amazed with how steady I was able to hold the gun. 2 more steps, and WHAM BAM Thank you, Man. Dead turkey. On handed shot. Not huge, but fun story to tell for my first turkey.

My boy and I hit it hard opening week but then with SD fishing and MN fishing we took at 25 day break. Set the blind the night before, got up at 430 AM and he pounded this good one shortly after sunrise. Great action all morning and this one came in with another on a string from about 200 yards. Nice slow walk and strut pretty much the whole way in.. It was AWESOME!
