This has been a heck of a winter as far as flu/covid/RSV/etc goes. My friend that’s a doctor said his clinic has never seen the level of these sicknesses that they can remember. Just about every one of my friends has been sick themselves or had a spouse/kid sick and its completely knocked them out. Not just your standard flu.

Have you or your family been sick this year? Also, out of curiosity, did you get a flu shot?

Me and my middle son both Influenza A. My youngest Influenza A and Covid at same time. My wife likely had Influenza A, but never was tested (she had same symptoms). We all got meds, I was better within 24 hrs of first symptoms. My sons were down for the count for several days. THe difference was they gave me a steroid while the others didnt get it.
We havent gotten flu shots ever and this is the first time in 10 years any of us got the flu.

I got really sick back in Dec. Respiratory something. Took 2 weeks to get over it. Home tested for Covid and was negative. Had a flu shot but not a Covid shot. Not sure either would have helped mine was definitely in my lungs.

Pretty much everyone I know has had something. From stomach “flu” to covid like. Small sample size but 4 in our household. 1 got the flu and covid vaccine and has been sick twice. Remaining 3 have been sick once each. All of us have had pretty much the same thing, massive headache, body aches, and fever for about 36 hours. Then a slow multi-day recovery.

I had/have a mild case of bronchitis, but have avoided everything else and no Flu Shot. My wife and kids have run the full gamut norovirus, RSV (kids only), bronchitis and a couple milder colds (possibly Covid), and got the flu shot. (Just answering the OP’s questions, not implying a connection or not)

I haven’t been sick and I did get the flu shot. Just about every one of my friends has had the flu or some version of significant sickness this winter and none of them got the flu shot.

I don’t think the flu shot does anything against norovirus, RSV, bronchitis or covid, so that’s not surprising.

^^^That’s awesome Glenn. Hope that keeps up for you two.

I’ve been sick twice this year already and did get flu shot last fall. Had that nasty RSV something rather over New Year’s and have a nuisance sinus cold this week. doah

Its about 50/50 of it working on the flu too. In 2023-2024 it was about 42%

Our house got the norovirus back in January, talk about a brutal illness. Vomiting and diarrhea like I’ve never seen before. Luckily it only lasted about 48hrs in our house, but everyone got it.

I hardly ever get sick, but mid January I had a dry cough for about 4 days, then the next week my wife had the same thing. No flu shots for either of us, no covid shot for me, wife had the original 2 shots. Basic cough suppressants and we were just fine.

I got my semi-annual round of sinus crap and went in for meds and came out being treated for Pneumonia. Caught it early so that was good. One of the “cylins and prednisone took it out.

Had covid in Sept. FW never got it thankfully. Nothing else between the 2 of us. Both of us have had every covid shot, flu, RSV, shingles, pneumonia, etc.
I’ve received some of them just because the FW is immune compromised because of her cancer treatments. Going on recommendation of the FW UW Carbon Cancer Center doctors.

X-mas eve and x-mas day, coughing my head off with body aches. The cough is still lingering.
I heard somewhere that they call it the 100 day cough. frown

EPG be careful with that, sounds like pneumonia.

more-or-less, I was sick from a week before Christmas through the beginning of February. Only a couple days of being knocked down, but the sinus issues and then the cough were unrelenting for weeks after. Still have a bit of the cough but it’s not nearly as bad as it was. The only thing I’ve avoided so far is the norovirus, and I consider myself lucky for that.

But it’s been a miserable winter for me and my household. Someone mentioned pneumonia, and I believe that’s what it was/is. Many people I know and were around had that as their diagnosis (walking pneumonia)

I had a mild cold with some congestion back in December for about a week. Nothing severe.

I went to the family practice clinic last week for a routine health check and it was like an infirmary in there. Nothing but people coughing and waiting for urgent care for respiratory illnesses. Both the nurse and doctor that saw me indicated it’s thick right now.

Mrs. Grouse had to go to a convention/corporate rah-rah fest in Las Vegas in January and she came home and promptly got sick 3 days later. It was some kind of respiratory crud and it hung on for 2 weeks. She got tested for flu and covid, both negative.

Hearing from parents/friends who have kids at school. Lots of strep, but you can never tell if it’s worse or better than an average year. A doctor friend of mine did say that RSV cases are higher than an average year and this is highly concerning for infants, so if you have babies, be vigilant. Our youngest son got RSV when he was 2 weeks old and it was scary.

My teen daughter has had the ‘100 day cough’ since before christmas and an ear infection a few weeks ago. She just can’t shake it and has had 2 different rounds of meds too. I can’t remember the last time I had the flu prior but wed night started getting the chills and ended up coming out both ends several times overnight so I called in sick and slept half the day yesterday then ate some toast about 3 and started getting my energy back. Slept 10 hours last night and feel fine this morning except my abs are pretty sore from puking. No shots here.

My house has been sick since x mas on and off. But we have been puking or the kids and lady have. It didn’t hit me till yesterday cutting roof openings in devils lake and puking off the side of the roof, it was rough. After I puked like 5 times I felt great and still do.

Got Covid in over Christmas for the 1st time (got vaccines when they first came out). Wish the HELL I would have kept them up with the vaccines. Still cannot taste, mouth as raw as a floor burn – and joints are miserable.

Bring it on all ya Covid naysayer KEYBOARD warriors. I will listen to the Dr.’s any day after what I am going through – which is on me for not keeping up with “da shot”.

Jesus is there anything left to puke after you do it twice? It’s just dry heaving at that point.

Make sure you stay hydrated. Constant vomiting will drain you of hydration.

Knock on wood. Been rather healthy both last winter and this winter so far. Made the decision to once again not get the flu shot this year. 2 things I believe really help me. I take extra vitamin D in the winter because I often get effects from SAD ( Seasonal Affective Disorder ) I am also a big believer in the use of extra vitamin C when I feel the start of illness. I like the Emergen-c product. They now have it available in No water needed crystal packets. Both may be nothing more than a Placebo effect, but they both seem to help me each winter. I do know lots of friends and family have had a rather tough winter with illness’s.

It was brutal, my body is sore from the heaving. I’ve been chugging water and pedialite. Sucked being out of town. I new i had to get the job done and luckily I was solo so no one had to be around me. But the kids at the high school watched me yaking off the roof.
