Need one, absolutely!! But affording one is a whole new story, let alone getting it by the boss. Why not charge that much, have you seen what people are paying for new boats and trucks. They will fly off the shelf, just not land in my old rig.

All that screen and it can’t even stream Netflix? Now that would be a selling point for a family man! Hint Hint Lowrance and HB…

Whoever buy’s one of these is a complete idiot. In a year I’m sure you’ll see these units priced around 2K…. Just another reason not to buy a lowrance product.

Don’t know that I’d consider them an idiot, but you’ve got the math right!

I’ve got an 898, 1199, helix 12, 788. All purchased new. Total retail $7,000… And then I rigged them, got maps, zero lines, y cables, network cables, etc!

Ouch. Glad I didn’t buy them all at once, and if you retail them now, bigger ouch.
Oh well, they each have thousands of hours of use, I don’t look back at any of those purchases as bad purchases, though I certainly could’ve waited years and bought them each used for a whole lot less!

    To each their own.

I do laugh though when I see a $40k boat with a helix 7 though

The 16″ screen isn’t new. Garmin has had a 16″ screen out for some time now and Humminbird released the 15″ Solix earlier this year. The Garmin runs $6,000 and this new Lowrance is $5,500 with all of the cables. The Solix seems like a fair deal at $3,500. The only 16″ I’ve seen so far on a prod boat is Greg Hackney. He ran a 16″ Garmin last year. There seems to be a market demand for these units I guess. I’m fine with my 678 and 899 for now.

I asked Brian if he was getting one and he said he’s waiting for the 55″ model later this year.

Seen the title and I fit right in. Didn’t go with Lowrance but a 16inch screen the bass guys will be all over that.

If I had a tiller, I still think I would go with 2 smaller units.
I have a wheel boat and went with one 12 and one 9.

The prices they charge for the larger screens, when the technology is basically the same is gouging at its finest.

Look at what guy can buy a 50″ smart TV for nowadays and then try to justify charging thousands extra for a 12 or 14″ screen over a 7″….. wth???

Bigger (price tag) is the new better. Electronics companies have all followed Apple’s lead, you never cut prices, you just add more “features” and bling-bling to justify keeping the price the same.

Next year they’ll introduce the Carbon 17 HDX Pro. More features, bigger screen, same low, low price. Adding “pro” is a feature in itself. Who would want to stay with the old unit and be an amateur when they could upgrade for only 5k and be a pro?

Personally, I’m buying one only because the little weenie units look even smaller when I mount them on my new 28 foot boat. Don’t worry, you guys with little 20 or 22 footers aren’t falling behind too much, I’m testing the new 28 footer for a leading boat maker as part of thier 2020 lineup. You’ll be able to upgrade then and get out of those cramped little 20 footers that you’re running now. Base price will only be in the $80k range, plus motors of course. Yes, “motors” is correct. Don’t tell me you’d still stick with a little single 300 or 350 egg beater instead of maxing it with a pair of the new 400s? Ooops. I probably wasn’t supposed to talk about the new 400 yet. Don’t tell anyone.

I can’t wait for the 28 footer, there will be a spot for the mini bar and my hibachi grill, or should I got with the hot tub option? decisions decisions.

The hibachi bar is nice but the hot tub comes with rod holders which is nice for trolling while drinking mimosas

    That’s exactly why I’m not buying a g2n.

The pounding, bashing, splashing, freezing, are reason to not compare TV’s.

Also, be careful thinking what’s inside the smaller units is the same in the bigger screens. I know GPS blows a donkey… In smaller units compared to the bigger ones.

Any you can buy “displays” to mount in your boat for a bigger screen which will run off your electronics. Aka, boat tv

You have to remember us freshwater folk are just a tiny fraction of the market. Big water and commercial guys love the larger units so they can have everything on one screen, and they need A LOT more information at their fingertips.

I mean obviously, you weekend guys that are currently driving little 20 footers with only 300 on the back aren’t going to be able to justify the upgrade from those smaller, slower boats. But the guys who are serious and want to have room for 2 guys and their gear are really going to appreciate the new 28 footers, I can tell you that already.

Personally, I hope they come out with a big screen version of the Carbon 16 because I can’t hardly see the one I have mounted on the bow if I’m more than half way back on the front casting deck. I need like a Carbon 60 or something.

Belletaine, if you see me out on, ummm, Belletaine, come over and say “hi”. If you’ve got an hour, I’ll give you the bow to stern tour. I’m pretty tough to miss in the new big rig. In case you’re wondering, the color is called “SkunkWerks Black”. Yeah. It’ll be a little hard to get this baby on a little pond like Belletaine, but I gotta get the testing days in. Catch me if you can.

Grouse you are a day late and a dollar short, we’ve had about a 30′ tri-toon with twin 350’s on the back on Belle Taine for a couple years. Thanks for catching up tho, I’m sure the guy that owns it needs company… rotflol

C’mon Werm. Riding on a tri-toon of any size is the fishing equivilent of being a fat kid riding a motor scooter.

Plus, I could never downgrade to only 700 HP now that I’ve got the twin 400s on tap. I mean, it’d be fine for you weekend casual guys that don’t fish much…

$5000 on electronics no problem. My Krell KSA-250 was a great investment for the down time between ice-in and ice out. It also helps heating the room. Just like an accesory to a finder there are hidden cost to make it work properly.
