So what should I do when the muskies are like 10 feet behind my bait? Admittedly, I’m not really figure 8ing, but it’s because I’m pulling a blue and white sucker looking salmo (rapala style bait)

2 fish, one mid 30s, the other probably close to 40.

    Im still shaking. Lol

Holy cats. Whatever you do, don’t expect anybody else to know or care about the no wake on Tonka. I was on the water by 7 and off before 10. I would say 90% of all boats were throwing their usual wake this morning.

    So…

How’d everyone do? Got quiet in here.

All told for the weekend we saw 9, only had 3 follow though, and not one hookup.

This will be my first year as well. Missed the opener but plan to get all the new gear wet the week of June 17th through the 21st on Mille Lacs. I’m going to be trolling spinners and spoons at first I think. Maybe switch to cranks or swimmers if need be. I’ll be attempting Planner Boards too. Do I dare assume on all new tackle the hooks are sharp enough or should I inspect them?

Inspect them all. Run the hook across your finger nail. If it scratches it without adding pressure it is sharp. About 30% of my muskie stuff is sharp “enough” right out of the box.

You can assume that if you like. However if you miss your only chance at a muskie because of dull hooks you might question what were you thinking. grin

    Nice trick… I’ll do that… Thanks Rodwork.

If I am running through rocks or just through stuff I will check and sharpen my hooks throughout the day.

Do what you should be doing… No disresepct Rodwork, but you should sharpen hooks every time you get ready to fish them!!! And that includes sharpening right out the box, EVERY TIME!!!

In some cases, you probably should be replacing the bloody things right out of the box before you sharpen them!!!

Getting ready for musky league tonight and am sharpening hooks before I start again tonight, file in back pocket thereafter…

Any specific tools you prefer for sharpening them?

I’ve tried several over the years and prefer the yellow handle file by our jensen

Tonka on Friday afternoon… worth it?

(Obviously any time out on the water is “worth it”, but buddy works in savage and lives in excelsior, and wants to get out fishing. Trying to pick somewhere close to all that)
