My brother owns property in Mille Lacs County and I get calls and texts about it roughly once per month. This is my brother’s property, so I don’t know why they are calling me. The only thing I can trace this back to is that I emailed the county with a question regarding the property and I listed my phone number on the email. They never did respond via email or call.

My wife and I own a vacant lot in the metro and we get a letter about once per quarter. We aren’t going to sell it, but I’ve let them give me an offer before. The highest bid so far was 70% of the market value. All of these companies that I’ve spoke to were from the East coast. We ended up getting that lot because I mailed 2 hand-written letters to the address listed as the owner. We didn’t get a response until about a year later when a realtor called and told us she was going to list it and the owners had saved my letter.

Bill Gates is farming his Grafton land still. Rents it to the previous owners.

Lots of people own land as a corporation. Especially families and groups of friends. Its much easier to handle the ownership side when there is responsible parties. Living in a triangle of lakes, hunting, and farmland, its not at all uncommon to see even young people in their 20’s with an LLC just to buy land for duck hunting. With farmland from the Red River Valley nearby land buying has always been a good investment around here, it always goes up in value and can be easily rented. Lately alot of the lake purchases are done by people with LLCs in the cities and Chicago, and they rent out on VRBO and what not almost exclusively and rarely visit the property. Your probably right about the mineral concerns in Northern MN, that’s what happens when regulations are expected to be removed, mining becomes profitable again.

i came across this, this past winter. i fished a lake that has 1 place on it, i’ve known this lake and property for many many years. all the other land surrounding this lake is owned by the government according to the GIS mapping.

while fishing i had 2visitors to my fishhouse, 1 was the owners dad, the other was the female owner……they were both curious of what a spearhouse looked like. getting off the lake i encountered the male owner driving a truck with California plates. the conversation i had with the gal, she told me they work out of california and go back frequently……so i did a GIS search….they have there 110 acres in an LLC out of minneapolis!

For those that think that think people from other countries shouldnt be able to own property in the US, what are your thoughts on people from and living in the US owning land in other countries? I know people that own property and cabins in Canada

I do remember seeing an article a few months ago that the Canadian Government is noticing more and more properties being bought up by companies in China and it is causing issues with their housing market

I dont much care about what goes on in other countries unless it directly affects me or could. I prefer my country protect its land for its citizens and to benefit us. No chance a foreign country or an individual like Bill Gates is looking out for the best interest of us.

Like Captain, I have no concern what other countries allow or not when it comes to this subject.

I get them all the time too, If I was going to sell, I would of done it by now, Right after the tornato a realator stiopped and ask if I wanted to sell my land across the road, I said no, “why not it’s junk now” “then why the hell do you want it?” I’m not giving up a inch of land while I’m still above ground.

Since when does it matter that landowners are looking out for anyone else? Gates is a landowner, just like some farmer that owns 10,000 acres. Funny thing is that people in Nebraska didn’t even know Gates was the largest landowner in some counties. They just thought another corporation owned the land. A reporter had to tell them.

Never ceases to amaze me how quick people run to the government and call for more regulations.

Coming from someone who has obviously never heard or read a word of what Gates has said which lead to his intentions. Are you OK with him saying essentially the pandemic was needed because millions of people needed to die because the earth was getting overpopulated?

I’m against limiting citizens rights based on their thoughts or what they said. Kind of shocking that there are people that are for limiting land ownership based on speech. And yes, I’m also fine with him retiring farmland if that’s what he desires. Won’t happen, but who cares if he does?

I have 40 acres in New Mexico, 6 acres in Michigan and 5 acres w/house in Ohio. I get calls, texts and letters regarding one of them every month or so.

I inform them if they are working with the Chinese/Blackrock/vanguard the asking price starts at $1 million.

I immediately said I wasn’t interested and hung up. Then I thought of this thread and got a little mad at myself jester

I shoulda went fishing for a little information and taken notes to share with the class lol
