White Bear Lake

Going to try fishing WBL this weekend for the first time. Targeting crappies.

My main unknown is the ice conditions. How is the ice looking out there? Vehicles out yet? Is most of the lake accessible? Sorry for all the questions, just excited to try a new lake. I fished Peltier last weekend, lots of vehicle traffic, slow bite.

Anyone had any luck out there? I might try for the night bite.

Feel free to ignore this part, but if anyone has any juicy spots they’d be willing to share with a rookie, I’d take them via PM. devil

Was out on the lake last saturday. Vehicles all over. Did see some truck tracks through the main parts of the lake but mostly snow machines and atvs. There are roads leading out of both landings. Don’t know anything about the bite since I wasn’t fishing. Follow the crowds and should be able to find some crappies

I was out there this weekend and didn’t measure the ice but it seemed like a bit more than a foot. There were people driving around the lake, but I walked out. I’d identify a spot you want to fish and pick the appropriate landing.

Can’t help you much on crappies, the big community hole is out of Bellaire beach, but I’ve never fished over there cause there’s just too many people. Plenty of weedlines and deeper water to explore on WBL, much of which will have little traffic.

My buddy lives near there and has been fishing it multiple times this season – hasn’t caught a thing there, but it maybe his location. It’s been the dead sea for him.

It’s a tough lake to crack. It’s changed a lot this ice season too with the water levels being as high as they are.

Should be a weedline lake but it is not, more of a basin lake. The bite is low light or no light. Falling snow is good. Suposedly has a true night bite which means the bite shuts down after sunset and picks up an hour after sunset-have tried that with mixed results. Tricky lake to figure out, good luck.

I’m going Sunday (Wanted to go down to Faribualt but wifey is worried about another over hyped storm-which will be worse to the south so good that I’m going slightly north to WBL) Any new info?
