Whisker Biscuit Vs. Fallaway- Which rest?

  • #1526065

I hunt just about all legal in Minnesota with a bow, and a question i have heard so much growing up as an archer was “Which rest should i shoot and why?” and boy is it fun, to see why people shoot what they shoot, i am asking this question not to start huge arguments but i`m asking it to learn and see which rest and why? i am currently using a fall away but i sure miss my Whisker and sometimes i wish i could have both lol, but again, just a curious bow hunter and archer! Thanks!

Qad ultra rest pro. Not a fan of whisker bike I shoot a lot they start to fall apart after 300+shots and they make to much noise when the fetching comes through them. Never will shoot anything but a drop away.

I started out shooting the Biscuit and thought it was great. Then everyone I shot with started to show me that some drop rests can have full containment as well. I changed to a Ripcord and only wish I had done so from the start.

I try and stay away from anything with plastic on it. Me and plastic don’t get along late season. However it is not easy to find a rest that is all aluminum. The older Schaffer drop aways are. That’s what my wife has. And I have a few year old trophy taker. These are all aluminum no plastic on them. A lot of trophy takers are now plastic but u can still find some aluminum ones usually in bargan caves or fleet farm.

Fall away hands down. I love my vaportrail limb driver, I put it on last year’s set up and I plan on putting it on this year’s too! I’ve also had good luck in the past with the Rip cord and trophy taker.

I read an article awhile back about whisker biscuit performance and I vaguely remember some of the results. The effects of the contact from the whisker biscuit was negligible under 40 yards but begins to be very variable after 60. As bowtechmike stated the point of impact begins to change with use. Also the noise factor was more than with fall aways.

One of the only advantages I can find with a whisker biscuit vs. a full containment fall away rest is the lack of moving parts, resulting in increased reliability. In saying that, I’ve never had a problem with a fall away rest.

Never shot a drop away but have shot quite a few rests. For me, it is all about the movement. I like to keep things simple on my bow so that is why I will never switch from the Whisker Biscuit. I hunt in the ultra cold and snow of late season and also the rain and heat of early season with no problems.

I have a rip cord and hate it. I see it as a burden to let down on game without having arrow contained. I will be switching to quad or back to whisker biscuit. Shooting 72lb bear motive 7 and bow is hard to let down slowly so that is why I would like a rest to have containment on let down.

The only rest I had a problem with was the Schafer optimizer. Since I had this problem a few years ago he has re designed it but the springs were open so snow and water would get in there then would freeze thus resulting in my rest not performing. He has fixed this problem so I may check another one out this season.

Here is an interesting article comparing the two styles – Whisker Biscuit Vs. Fallaway

I have a rip cord and hate it. I see it as a burden to let down on game without having arrow contained. I will be switching to quad or back to whisker biscuit. Shooting 72lb bear motive 7 and bow is hard to let down slowly so that is why I would like a rest to have containment on let down.

This is why I made the switch to the Limb Driver.

I went from a WB to a pro v limb driver. I haven’t looked back. I love the pro v because it’s so simple.

I may have to check out the limb driver. The brushes on my WB are worn and need to be replaced anyways. it may be a good time to switch.

My new bow came in a package with a WB on it. I decided to get just the bow and set it up with what I wanted. The WB was not one of my favorites. I just don’t like how they react in really cold weather. I went with the trophy ridge revolution.

I had the rip cord on my last bow and now have the Mathews version on my dxt. I was very skeptical of adding moving parts at first, but I would not go away from the drop away for anything now. I added a sims fall away arrow holder to the base of the shelf and haven’t yet had any issues when letting down from full draw (I let down pretty slowly though). I also put felt pretty much on the entire shelf where the arrow could possibly hit should it fall off for sound deadening.

I have shot a limb driver pro v on my mr7 for a couple years now and would never consider changing it ever. I noticed my groups shrunk even out to 80yds. It is ultra quiet shooting and letting down on game and is full containment and easy to set up what more could a guy ask for!

I have a drop away by G5 and have had nothing but issues. The fletching hits the rest as it passes. I’ve had it in the shop too many times to count. I’ll be buying a new rest this year and it will be another drop away.

Yes, the launcher arm falls back down to flush with the rest housing after each shot. It is driven by a spring that is custom set up to put just enough pressure to lift your arrow. The launcher arm is connected to a cord which then is attached to the limb of your bow, and is tight when the bow is at rest thus keeping the launcher arm down. When you draw, the limbs flex and the cord goes slack, and the launcher arm raises with your arrow. When you shoot the string goes tight and pulls the rest rapidly downward.

I’ll attach a picture to give you a better feel.

It doesn’t look like you live too far away from the VaporTrail shop, they are up in Ham Lake. A great bunch of guys and they would be more than happy to get you set up correctly. I’ve had 3 Limb Driver Pro-Vs and they have all worked flawlessly.

Here’s a better picture I took last year with my bow. You can see where the cord attaches to the launcher arm.

I tried the WB and went back to the drop away and will never use anything different.

I use a QAD and love it. I looked long and hard, found a good deal on Archery Talk for one and am glad I went with a drop away. Full containment, American made. Works like a champ!
