I have fished spike tail lures and done okay with them but nothing impressive. The tail quiver is key. So one day recently I figured that since Senkos and mini-sticks have done well with their waddle-action on the drop when wacky rigged, why not a super-small stick with a similar action on the drop or using rod tip twitches mid-depth. Man did it catch different fish species first time tried!!
I took a grub body (after cutting off the curl tail) and attached to stinger-type tails to both ends using a candle flame:
