Went up to Grand Rapids and the pumpkinseed in my avatar was a 9.25″ fish caught by Michelle. We wanted to release her but I weighed her and some how nicked a gill. I was bummed. Lesson learned is I need to rig a basket of some sort for panfish.

We caught many 9″+ bluegills, but the bite was slow. We stayed 3 days and at times we’d have slow but consistent bites. Other times they had lock jaw.

It was after all the rain and we had no idea if it was pre or post spawn. I suspect it was still pre spawn. We saw a couple beds, but there were only small fish on them.

I kept telling my sister and brother in law how fortunate they are to have a cabin on a lake where you average such big bluegills.

Its not much of a walleye lake, but Michelle did catch another nice one and she was the only one. She’s really getting back into fishing and is excited about it.

That’s a beautiful ‘seed, Pug. If you get a chance put up a full sized pic of that one, please. I love seeing them.

That would make and awesome looking mount! Very Colorful fish. The biggest I’ve ever caught was about 8″ no where near as colorful.

Like I said, I did enhance the color, but it was pretty colorful to begin with. I personally wouldn’t mount a pumkinseed like that, although I suppose I could of once I sealed his fate. But then I would be reminded of the murder daily! LOL

Congrats that’s a giant seed. You have to love the colors of them. Don’t beat yourself up that kind of thing can happen. I have found that a kitchen scale works really well to weigh panfish, but then it’s one more thing to take up room in the boat.
