Which TUCR to go with?

I’m torn between the bullwhip and the fusion. I recently just purchased the precision noodle for panfish and want to get a rod more for fishing perch because we make a trip to Minnesota every winter. I can’t decide if I want to go with the bullwhip or the fusion I primarily use spoons from 1/16 ounce to 3/16 ocassonially a 1/4 buckshot and wondering if the bullwhip would handle them ok? I don’t have a store within a hour of me to go try one out and look for opinions and will decide off of input. I also watch a lot of in depth outdoors and James Holst usually seems to use a bullwhip for perch just want peoples thoughts for those who have used them before. Thanks in advance

Personally I prefer the Fusion for what you described. I use my fusion whenever I am fishing small spoons. I know a lot of people use a Bullwhip for that, but I prefer the Bullwhip with a tungsten jig. The Fusion is a very capable rod for the large panfish up to small walleye bite.

Fusion based on my experience with both rods. I use my Bullwhip for 1/16-1/8 heavier tungsten and small spoons (when the bite is finicky and I’m watching the rod tip), Fusion for 1/16-3/16 spoons – could get away with using 1/4 ounce but not ideal. Fusion is an incredible small spoon rod.

I don’t think you would want to fish a 1/4 spoon on a BW.I fish up to an 1/8 and then I go with the Fusion.Do you have a use for it other than Minnesota once a year?If not maybe you could get by with the BW.

I don’t really have use for it other then every year we take a 4 day trip to Winnie for perch so that’s really the only time I use spoons

I wouldn’t buy a $100+ custom for a 4 day trip once a year, but that’s just me. Look at the Beaver Dam custom noodle. It’s a phenomenal noodle rod with a similar action to the Bullwhip, with fairly large guides to prevent freeze up.

Oh, also. It sells for a whopping $15.

Right now I have been using a 13 fishing 38” light tickle stick and it works pretty good it’s loaded up a little more then I like when I use a buckshot but like chuck said for just 4 days if I go with the bullwhip and could use it at home more often then a fusion I’m kind of leaning that way

Fusion is TUCRs best small spoon rod. Bullwhip is ideal for pounding panfish plastics on tungsten jigs, but not well suited for the heavier lure in your range.

For the lures you describe in the 1/16-3/16 range, with an occasional heavy spoon, the Precision or Quicktip would be worth considering if you lean towards the heavier end of your range.

If I were you, I’d get a popular rod (Fusion, Bullwhip, Precision), keep it in good shape, and sell it if it doesn’t fit your needs. My choice would be a 32″ split grip Fusion. If you put that on this site at 75-80% retail it’d be sold in a day, if it were in excellent condition.

I use my bull whip all the time ” with small spoon’s” with the heavier stuff 3/16 , grab a stiffer rod , perch size . DK.
