Which prop

Looking for a new prop for my new to me 2005 Yamaha 90 horse. I’m not sure what’s on it but what are you guys getting for speeds with what prop? I’m max about 34 fully loaded and am looking to get a bit more out of her if possible. I’m sticking with aluminum since I fish around lots of rocks and would prefer top end over hole shot. Accelerating the fastest isn’t as important to me as cutting the time of a long run.

It will really depend on the boat your running. Also look at what prop you’re running now and what are your max RPM with this prop as a starting point.

Alumacraft tournament pro 175, and I’d have to pay attention to the rpms, I want to say at full throttle I’m at around 6000 rpms, but I’m not positive. I’d have to check next time I take it out

Find out what your max rpms are for the motor, then find out what your rpms are for the boat WOT. See how she handles turns, big wave acceleration, etc.

    Then you go from there.

34 fully loaded with a 90 on a big 17′ boat sounds about right.

I have 618t 90 Yamaha and had 17p and went to 15p for hole shot. Lost about 2-3 mph. But hole shot notably better. Lighter boat I would guess 17p

Had 2006 Lund 1700 with a 90 on it. I think 34 is about the top end especially with a full fuel load.

With just me in that boat and a light load with a tail wind I think 37 was all I could muster.

Reason I’m asking is that the prop on it is chewed up a bit and I’m just going to replace it. It’s a 13.25×17. Found a good deal on a 13×19 So I ordered it. Should be able to give me a bit more top end, but I’ll lose some hole shot. Which isn’t that important to me. Like I said earlier I’m more interested in cutting some time off long runs. Yamaha has a handy prop selector. So I was able to put the info I have into it and they give you recommended props and pitches based on what kind of performance you’re searching for.

In case anyone wanted to give it a try!

Hopefully it works out for you and it isn’t too much prop.

X2. My stock is 13×19 and is a 2 stroke and sucks out of hole. Doesn’t matter what the prop is if your motor only can turn it at 5100. But who knows?!

That prop selector is pretty generic, but you obviously want it asap. Hope it works out.

If you want more top speed out of your motor look at getting your ECM flashed and you can gain 15HP and put on a 14×19 prop. I called the speed shop and they wanted $695 to do it on my 115hp.

I’m suspecting that you won’t see much top end difference and just the loss in hole shot. The 19 will run a lower max rpm which will translate into less top speed.

bigcrappie, I’d really like to know a little more about flashes.

The prop on it is chipped up pretty bad. Just want to replace it sooner than later. I got out on the water last night and according to my tach I’m right around the 6100 rpms

Well I got the new prop out. I’m getting the same speeds but at 1000 rmps less. I’m running right at 5000 now when before I was running at 6000 to 6100. So fuel effeciency definately went up. I’m going to have the other prop repaired and try it again and see how it does.
