Happy New Year everyone! My Jiffy Pro 4 is on the fritz. I have a new 5 inch Laser and would like to turn it with a cordless drill. I recently bought a 20 volt Dewalt combo drill driver/impact wrench. Which would be better to drive the auger? Looking to limit what I take on the ice. Thanks for opinions or experiences.

Which is better for drilling holes?

If you’re asking which of the two to use in the combo pack, the Drill is the only option as you can’t connect the bit to an impact.

The drill may work but ideally a hammer drill is the way to go, they have a second handle on them that you position opposite of the regular handle so it doesn’t twist the hell out of your wrist when the auger catches on the ice. They are also built a little heavier and probably have more power/torque than the one you got in the kit. You can get the bare tool (no battery, case or charger) for about $150. You already have the batteries and charger that it takes.
January 4, 2018 at 2:35 pm #1741404you can use your non hammer drill with the clam plate, it will help save on your drill bearings. I recommend at least 4ah batteries and 650 inlb of torque.
January 4, 2018 at 3:25 pm #1741412FYI if anybody cares all the new Milwaukee fuel brush-less drills come with the handle not just the hammer drill. Not sure if the same goes for the similar version in Dewalt.
I just bought the bare tool 2703-20 for around $100.00 The Drill is noticeably stronger than my older Milwaukee cordless, Im assuming that is why both the Hammer and Non hammer models come with the Handle.

Touche’!. Thankyou for steering a dumbass towards the right direction. I’ll probably get lost on the way there.

January 11, 2018 at 2:28 am #1743187The plug for the over priced Clam thing is funny. I looked it up, at several reputable retailers the Clam thing costs more than my Dewalt drill did. Lmao. Thanks though. Ocean front property in Arizona. Lol
January 11, 2018 at 10:49 am #1743269It wasn’t a plug for anything bud, just trying to help you out. I don’t even have a clam plate, I have a rigid hammer drill i use, if you didn’t already have a kit i would suggest a hammer drill as it is built tougher than a standard drill and has a handle to keep from breaking your wrist.
Since you already bought yourself a drill, i was trying to suggest a solution that helps save on the bearings and gives you more leverage while drilling.
My buddy has one and really likes it, since you know everything about this i guess you don’t need my input then…..

Your dewalt drill cost you less than $68? You sure you didn’t buy some chinese junk?
January 12, 2018 at 5:50 am #1743482Love it. No I cruised the net and the Clam kit was listed as high as $170 but could be found much lower. You guys mean you didn’t buy your drills out of the back of a truck in the home depot pairing lot?
January 12, 2018 at 6:11 am #1743487Clam kit is different than just the bare clam plate, depending if you need an auger bit or if you are going a different route. Know what you’re talking about before ridiculing help that has been offered.
January 12, 2018 at 11:59 am #1743583Thanks guys. I didnt mean to riducule anyone. Sorry was taken that way. Sincerely. .
